q3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback
1. What have you learned from
you audience feedback
BY ROBERT VARGA - 0875
2. How I have done the research
I have used SurveyMonkey to create surveys, and share it
to a large range of people, to collect as much information
as possible about my audience's taste and preferences.
This allowed me to alter my music video in a way that it
will specifically appeal to my target audience. Which
was 16-25 year old hip hop lovers, majority men.
3. Result analysis
I have received 15 responses and as the result graph
shows, majority of my audience who has answered were
men. This could be bias to a certain extent, because a
number of people might have not received or filled out the
survey that I have created.
However gender diversion has taken a significant
importance when I was constructing my video in able to
specifically target my audience and make sure about all
the conventions that a hip-hop music video clip contains.
4. Result analysis
The next question reveled, that majority of the people
who answered this surveys were ranging from 12-25.
Which is the target audience range I needed to appeal to,
in my music video clip.
This helped me to gain a better understanding of my
target audience and what I needed to include in my
music vide, such as partying, money, etc.
5. Result analysis
The following graph show what interests the people who
took my survey. Majority has chosen narrative and
performance based music video clips. Which helped me to
make the final decision about how my music video is going
to be laid out to reach out to a wider target audience.
The decision was to create a hybrid music video clip that
contains both performance and narrative elements, that I
have created by changing shots between the story line and
performance shots, and in some places combined both. For
example when the main character is sitting in the sofa, he
is lip syncing to the song but at the same time we can see a
couple of shots of him just enjoying himself by having a
conversation and drinking with his friends.
6. Result analysis
The following question reveled that majority of the
people who have answered my surveys, like to find
entertainment in music videos, this particular
answer could also relate to "The Gratifiation theory". A
large number of people picked Art as well, however this
did not have a large influence on my decisions how to
create my music video, because I had a lot of
information about hip-hop genre and depending on the
artist and the song, this could be altered, however my
artist's music videos do not really contain artistic
elements. They are more technically enhanced and
entertainment based.
7. Result analysis
The colouring of the videoclip has been an
easy decision. A mixture of uses of colour
and black and white footages has allowed
me to create a professional look to the video
clip that was the most succesful according to
the sruvey.
8. Result analysis
Majority of the people who have taken my
survey have chosen pop as their preferred
music genre. This shows that this survey is
not an accurate or comprehensive
information source for me due to the fact
that it does not only ask my target audience.
9. Result analysis
The following graph has shown that majority
of people like to watch music videos online.
This showed that online video websites such
as Youtube were appropriate to share my
music video clip.
10. Result analysis
Most importantly the last question within my
survey has reveled that Youtube is the most
appropriate video sharing website, that I can
use to upload my video clip. This appeals to
my target audience, therefore it was easier to
share my music through Youtube. Further
more it allowed me to share my video within
an environment that my target audience
already knew.
11. Conclusion for the Research Survey
Overall this survey has shown that what particular website my audience uses to watch
videos. Also it has shown the importance of Youtube and the Internet, which had a
significant importance on how I was going to share my music video product with my
audience. Further more It has helped me to collect information of my target audience,
their age and their preferred features within music videos.
However as the sruvey's results have shown, that people who have taken my
survey were differentiating in age to a large extent, furhter more their preferences
within genre have been quite wide as well.
This shows that this particular survey I have created has only been useful to a little
extent.
12. Feedback on the final cut of the music video
I have also created a survey to receive feedback on my music video. This allowed me to see if I needed
to make some changes in it to improve on it.
This time I have changed my style of researching and I have specifically targeted my target audience
which was 16-25 year old hip-hop lovers.
I have done this in a way that I have shared it on my Facebook with the people who I personally
know that like hip-hop culture, genre, music.
Further more I have shown my music video to my tutor class, and then asked them to fill out my
survey online, which some of them have done.
I have managed to receive 16 people's feedback for my survey, which I believe has created a more
accurate, applicable feedback to me on my music video clip due to the fact that I have specifically
targeted my target audience.
13. Final feedback results
According to
my final survey feedback, 68% of people who
has answered my survey liked my music
video. This has been a positive feedback,
which meant I have managed to create a
media product that follows the conventions
of a real media product.
14. Final feedback results
The feedback I have received on this
particular question shows that majority of my
target audience think that the performance
and the editing has been the strongest part
of my music video. However the
graph shows the answers vary to a large
extent, therefore this could be
bias depending on personal preferences
15. Final feedback results
The following feedback that I have received varies to a
large extent. The highest option that has been chosen was
no comment, and on second place people chose the
narrative as the weakest part of my music video. Further
more I have received some comments as well, from people
with their personal beliefs and views and comments about
the video, which was a more specific feedback to consider
changes
16. Final feedback results
By the majority of my target audience who filled this
survey out, watched the whole music video clip, is a clear
positive feedback on the fact that it was interesting or
entertaining . This is because if they were to not to watch it
all the feedback would have been more negative.
17. Final feedback results
The following graph shows a very important feedback. This
is because majority of the audience has placed my music
video to advance area. Which means I have been
successful to create a real media product like music video
clip, within a non professional environment.
This also ad a significant amount of impact on my decision
not to change anything on my music video, and move on
with the next tasks.
18. Final feedback results
As the previous feedback have shown the weakest part of the
music video clip was the narrative according to my target
audience. However this particular slide shows that the
overall pattern of the narrative was understandable and it was
easy to follow, which could show a that the previous decision
of my target audience could have been just a subjective
choice to ensure they have ticked one of the columns, or they
just did not like it for personal or subjective reasons.
This of course shows that within the music industry not every
on will like the music video, however it could still be
succesful.
19. Final feedback results
The added comments have been very positive which
has highly influenced my decision to not to change my
music video. It helped me to move onto my next task
quicker from construction to evaluation
20. CONCLUSION
Overall I have learned a lot from my audience feedbacks that I have received. It played a very
important role during the pre production stages of my music video, because I have received a
large variety of feedback from a wide range of groups, differing in taste and age, which allowed
me to expand my knowledge about audience preferences.
However, because of the wide range of differences between the people who took my survey, it
must have been bias to a certain extent and not entirely appropriate for my research. However
during the post production feedback I have managed to get a more comprehensive feedback by
creating and sharing a survey to my specific target audience. This feedback has enabled me to
make a decision to correct previous tasks, and move on to other tasks within my project and leave
the final cut of the music video clip as it was. This decision has been made due to the positive
feedback I have received.
