The elementsthat make in-person speaking fun and engaging are the same for online presenting, although they look and feel different.
This may be the hardest step for some – to put your habits aside (along with your pride) and to remember that although you may hold the center of attention, you are not the most important person in the Elluminate room. When you approach your planning form this standpoint, you are well-poised to move forward.
Forget what YOU like to do and what YOU think you should talk about – what does your audience want and need to hear?Be empathetic – if you were in the audience, would YOU find what you are talking about or doing to be interesting?
When you are building a PowerPoint presentation to use in an Elluminate session, remember to use bullets, not paragraphs.
Better yet – dump the bullets and find an interesting image that explains the bullet point.
Better yet, dump the bullet point and replace it with something interactive – ask your attendees to use the whiteboard, answer polling questions, play a game, or tour a website.
