2. Intuition
• Intuition may serve you well, but if you don’t
think deeper and use logic, you may be
wrong!

3. • A bat and ball cost $1.10.
• The bat costs one dollar more than the ball.
• How much does the ball cost?

5. Answer
• If you have used your intuition, your answer
will be $0.10
• If you have used logic, you will answer $0.05

6. • Even Top students from Harvard, MIT with
perfect SAT scores would get it wrong.
• Many people are overconfident, prone to
place too much faith in their intuitions. They
apparently find cognitive effort at least mildly
unpleasant and avoid it as much as possible.

7. • So even for some simple problems, you may
need to put in more thought. They may not
seem as easy as you think.
