Recently, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration (FMCSA) established a new No-Defect
DVIR Rule that will result in more than $1 billion in time
being saved each year within the trucking industry.
3. FMCSA
• According to the FMCSA, truck drivers spend around 46
million hours completing and filing Driver Vehicle
Inspection Reports (DVIRs) every year when they do not
have any defects to report. Therefore, for the majority of
their inspections, drivers spend valuable time filing
reports that are not necessary. To combat this, the
administration established this new rule. Under the
changes, truck drivers who have no mechanical problems
or safety issues during their post-trip and pre-trip
inspections do not have to file a DVIR. This will allow
professional truck drivers in America to focus more on
driving safely and completing their duties efficiently
without being overburdened with paperwork.
