Robert D. Clements Jr. began his career as an elementary school teacher for the Chino Valley Unified School District in 1993, became and assistant principal and then transitioned to the role of Principal of Wickman Elementary, which he had helped open, in 2003. He successfully implemented a series of initiatives that resulted in an increase in Wickman’s Academic Performance Index (API) by 80 points, saw the completion of a grant for the district’s first multi-sensory reading garden and outdoor primary insect laboratory, and maintained a steady student attendance rate of over 97 percent. Under Mr. Clements, Wickman Elementary was suspension- and expulsion-free for two years.
