Briefly put, organizations (providers, hospitals and all) are leveraging the potential of Internet of Things, to empower their people, patients to take control of their own health. In a subtle way, redefining the way people, sensors, apps, devices and wearables can interact with each other in a secure environment, and take the healthcare experience to the next level. A recent survey by Forrester Consulting suggests 90% of the Healthcare IT departments are ready to adapt IoT based solutions. And, 52% of the surveyed respondents are already incorporating IoT technology. With IoT as a powerful enabler, innovative apps and wearables are taking strong roots in the healthcare ecosystem; health bands, fitness devices, calorie meters, heart rate monitors, to name a few. Such healthcare devices are used by physicians to record patient’s biometric information as they deliver exceptional patient monitoring and management results on-the-go.

From The Guardian to Cisco, big business to small, it seems that everybody is talking about the Internet of Things — but what exactly is IoT and why does it matter? Taking a deep dive, we explore the many faces of IoT in Healthcare. Technology research and advisory company, Gartner, currently place the Internet of Things at the peak of inflated expectations and there are certainly challenges. But IoT also holds real promise for healthcare and it is already making an impact today. We demonstrate why the Internet of Things has a far reaching impact across all determinants of health and how it could lead to a broader model of healthcare. We look at some of the technologies that are available to buy or that are already in development today, whilst also exploring some of the very real challenges that integrating such technologies into healthcare presents. Finally, we offer some ideas about how you can get involved, whether you are a healthcare professional or not.

Summary: A visual overview of the type and range of Citizen Observatories in Europe, across a range of factors, focusing on those funded under FP7 and H2020. TLDR: With the increasing prevalence of Citizen Observatories globally, there have been calls for a more integrated approach to handling their complexities, and to sharing crucial knowledge for the design and management of stable, reliable and scalable Citizens’ Observatory programmes. Answering this challenge in the European context, the Horizon 2020-funded project WeObserve aims to improve coordination between existing Citizen Observatories and related European activities, while tackling three key challenges that inhibit the mainstreaming of citizen science: Awareness, Acceptability, and Sustainability. Systematically tackling these challenges first requires the aggregating, building and strengthening of the Citizen Observatory knowledge base. The first step in doing so is to map the EU landscape to identify the existing Citizen Observatory networks and their associated ecosystems and stakeholders, in order to gain insights into the development, operation and challenges facing Citizen Observatories in Europe. This Poster presents a visualisation of the Landscape Report that forms one of the first tasks within the WeObserve project, describing and comparing Citizen Observatories in Europe.

Presentation of some of the Km4City development tools: ServiceMap and App Development Kit, ADK. ServiceMap is focused on providing information to the developers, to help them learning how to access to the data model, to exploit and use the API ADK is a drafted modular web and mobile application based on HTML5 and JavaScript (apache Cordova) that can be used to exploit Smart City API to develop a large range of applications. It is modular, flexible, etc. and allow performing users behavior analysis. The solutions are currently in use on several EC and national Projects such as: Sii-Mobility, RESOLUTE, REPLICATE, Weee, … Cities aims at providing new Smart Services to city users: operators, final users, etc. In most cases via Web and Mobile Apps which exploit data: Structural data, open data, real time data, etc., private data from companies to be aggregated and transformed in services (providing: prediction, information, early warning, relations) at reasonable cost for: developers, operators, and SME to realize new Apps and services. If cost is not affordable, Services and Apps are not developed, in most cases the Apps are also provided for free, so that high costs are not sustainable  Public Private Partnership Scenarious vs SmartCity API Search data: by text, near, along, etc... SmartWorld 2017 in San Francisco is the next edition after the successful SmartWorld 2016 in Toulouse France and SmartWorld 2015 in Beijing China.
