Inland fisheries consists of freshwater aquaculture and capture fisheries which is further divided into leasable fishery, reserved fishery and open fishery in which fishing rights are granted under licenses. There are 3722 leasable fisheries of which 3490 are under operation and supporting the livelihoods of fishing communities. Culture based capture fishery is being practiced in some leasable waters. 29. Myanmar has a long coastal line of 2832 kilometer stretching from the Northernmost of Nerf River to Southernmost Victoria Point. The coast is facing to the Indian Ocean in Rakhine State, the Bay of Bengal in Ayeyarwaddy Division and the Andaman Sea in Tanintharyi Division. Such a long coastline is stretching along the coastal areas forming almost 228781 square kilometer of continental shelf out of 486000 sq kilometer total marine fisheries where the water is so fertile and enriched with nutrient and plankton. 30. Myanmar marine fishery production is about 1.679 million metrics ton in 2008. Majority of marine catch landed from coastal fisheries using bag net, gill net and line fishing. However, off-shore activities by medium size trawlers, purse seiners and long liners are important for marine fishing.The major catch species are Crustacean, Sea bass, Grouper, Snapper, Hilsa, Mackerel, Pomfrets, Scianids, and Threadfin etc. Marine Fisheries
