Explanation of process and purpose of activities

Icebreakers

Whacko:

Aim:

To get members to remember the names of their fellow group members

Instructions:

Each group member would introduce their name and section. Members would then sit in a
circle on the floor, with the group leader being the “whacker” first. He will have to stand in the middle
of the circle.

The whacker will call a name and attempt to hit the person called. However the person can say
another name in order to direct the whacker away to said person.

Anyone who gets hit will be the new whacker. Group leaders can choose how long they want
to play this game.

杀:

Aim:

Other than to get members to know each other, through the forfeits, members can derived fun and
most possibly vivid memories from such an experience

Instructions:

Members are to sit in a circle on the floor.

In this game, there are 3 different gestures: 杀,反杀,and 瞄. The group leader will start the
game by initiating a 杀 (a sweeping motion of the person's hand to the person on his left while saying
杀), which would then proceed in a clockwise direction around the circle. The members who get “ 杀
ed” will have to continue the chain by doing a 杀 on the person to their left. However at any one time,
a person can do a 反杀(a sweeping motion of the hand towards the person who 杀 ed you, while
saying 反杀). This basically means that the flow is reversed, and that they will continue in an opposite
direction. Continuous 反杀 s are allowed, but only up to a maximum of 5. Also, people can 瞄 others.
Which means that when a person is getting 杀 ed, he can stretch out his index finger and 瞄 someone
else by saying “瞄 X”. The 杀 or 反杀 will then continue from that person. A person would have to do
a forfeit if : he accidentally 杀 s in the wrong direction, or if he exceeds the number of continuous 反
杀 s allowed. The person would then do a forfeit that is subjected to his group members.

Extra notes: These games are meant to help members in getting to know each other so as to let the
camp run more smoothly

Water Bomb Game

Aim:

To get members to engage in mindless fun so that they would develop friendships with each other in
the process.

Instructions:

Teams would be armed with 100 water bombs. They would then assign a person to stand in the
center (who would wear newspapers) while the others would spread out in a circle, circling the person.

The objective of the game is to make sure as many water bombs as possible hit the opposing
teams' center person, while protecting one's own center person at the same time. By protection, it would
mean blocking the water bombs with one's own body.

EXCO members, and possibly teacher ics/conductor would go around helping any group that
seems to be on the losing end. However, if any group members were to hit them (whether it is
accidental or intentional), they would be subjected to a forfeit after the game. A forfeit table will be
drawn for such purposes, with different forfeits for number of times a group is marked. There will be
EXCO members recording down the forfeits, and one other taking photos/videos of the entire event.

After the end of the event, members will then go for showers at the Swimming Pool area.
Members who have finished showering can go for lunch. Groups will take turns to shower, which will
be closely watched by EXCO members (refer to chart in pg 15).

Bunk Time (Essentially time to relax in bunk area)

Aim:
Games are not enough to bond members together. They need some private time together in order to get
to know each other better as they would not be bound by any rules or regulations. Group leaders will be
briefed beforehand to prepare some activities for their groups during this time (such as playing
hangman, or perhaps even chatting).

Lecture with Dr Samuel Wong

Aim

To let members understand Chinese music better, and its ever-changing face in the modern world.
Focused on the SYF pieces. Notes/WS are to be given out during the lecture to ensure that members
have paid attention during the lecture.

Movie Watching

Aim:

For members to relax during the evening while watching a movie. Also allows them to digest their
meal.

War Games

Aim:

To foster team bonding together via games requiring a high level of teamwork to win.

Instructions:

The objective of the game is to capture the opponents' flags. Two groups will be merged into
one team, hence there are five teams in the game.

Each group would have their own base assigned by the facilitators of the camp (Bases are
marked with colors corresponding to teams: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, White). Members are to put 1
sock each in their pants, leaving at least half of it sticking out. When the game starts, members can
have the option of either trying to find enemies' bases to capture flags, or stay at their bases to guard
their own flags.

When encountering a member from a different group, one may send said member to the penalty
area by pulling out the person's sock. That member would then have to go to the Main Atrium to
receive a penalty (sing a song, run in circles etc). Throughout the entire course of the game, facilitators
can choose to help any team depending on the situation. Facilitators are invulnerable, and thus cannot
be sent the penalty box. They will be distinguished by wearing a black shirt.

To capture the flag, one would have to take the flag (located in enemy's base) and bring it back
to their own base. When that happens, the two teams would then merge, with the dominant team's color
(meaning team which captured the flag) being the main color. This means that the other team's flag(s)
will be discarded and that only one flag would be in use. This would continue until there is only 1 team
left. That team would then be the winner. In the event of the game time ending before this state is
achieved, groups will be awarded points based on how many people they have forfeited (the more the
team members being forfeited, the lesser the amount of points). The chart will be included in pg15.

PT

Aim

Even if one is in a musical CCA, physical fitness is still important to one's body.

Instructions

Members will undergo a series of exercises meant to warm up their body so as to prepare them
for the Amazing Race. Such exercises include sit ups, push ups, and varied stretching. I/C is Zeqing.

Amazing Race

Aim

     • For the team to make coordinated decisions under the guidance of the group leader
     • For the members to feel that they are part of a team

Instructions

All groups will start off with a clue to the first stop. The objective of the game is to be the first team to
reach the Pitstop, the location of which will be hinted in the envelope received upon arrival of the
eighth stop.

There are altogether 8 stops, 2 detours and 1 roadblock in the game.

Stops are locations in which the team needs to go and a clue of the next location will be given upon
arrival by the group leader.

A clue to a detour will contain two clues; each clue hinting at the nature of the two different tasks. The
difficulty of a task in a detour is usually offset by the distance of detour station from the stop. Both
tasks will lead to the same next station.

The roadblock (Murder Puzzle) will be at the location of the Pitstop, but it must be completed to
advance to the Pitstop.

Area of game will be in RI(S) and RI(JC). Point system included in pg16.

Rui Jun will be in charge of this activity.

  • 8. Explanation of process and purpose of activities Icebreakers Whacko: Aim: To get members to remember the names of their fellow group members Instructions: Each group member would introduce their name and section. Members would then sit in a circle on the floor, with the group leader being the “whacker” first. He will have to stand in the middle of the circle. The whacker will call a name and attempt to hit the person called. However the person can say another name in order to direct the whacker away to said person. Anyone who gets hit will be the new whacker. Group leaders can choose how long they want to play this game. 杀: Aim: Other than to get members to know each other, through the forfeits, members can derived fun and most possibly vivid memories from such an experience Instructions: Members are to sit in a circle on the floor. In this game, there are 3 different gestures: 杀,反杀,and 瞄. The group leader will start the game by initiating a 杀 (a sweeping motion of the person's hand to the person on his left while saying 杀), which would then proceed in a clockwise direction around the circle. The members who get “ 杀 ed” will have to continue the chain by doing a 杀 on the person to their left. However at any one time,
  • 9. a person can do a 反杀(a sweeping motion of the hand towards the person who 杀 ed you, while saying 反杀). This basically means that the flow is reversed, and that they will continue in an opposite direction. Continuous 反杀 s are allowed, but only up to a maximum of 5. Also, people can 瞄 others. Which means that when a person is getting 杀 ed, he can stretch out his index finger and 瞄 someone else by saying “瞄 X”. The 杀 or 反杀 will then continue from that person. A person would have to do a forfeit if : he accidentally 杀 s in the wrong direction, or if he exceeds the number of continuous 反 杀 s allowed. The person would then do a forfeit that is subjected to his group members. Extra notes: These games are meant to help members in getting to know each other so as to let the camp run more smoothly Water Bomb Game Aim: To get members to engage in mindless fun so that they would develop friendships with each other in the process. Instructions: Teams would be armed with 100 water bombs. They would then assign a person to stand in the center (who would wear newspapers) while the others would spread out in a circle, circling the person. The objective of the game is to make sure as many water bombs as possible hit the opposing teams' center person, while protecting one's own center person at the same time. By protection, it would mean blocking the water bombs with one's own body. EXCO members, and possibly teacher ics/conductor would go around helping any group that seems to be on the losing end. However, if any group members were to hit them (whether it is accidental or intentional), they would be subjected to a forfeit after the game. A forfeit table will be drawn for such purposes, with different forfeits for number of times a group is marked. There will be EXCO members recording down the forfeits, and one other taking photos/videos of the entire event. After the end of the event, members will then go for showers at the Swimming Pool area. Members who have finished showering can go for lunch. Groups will take turns to shower, which will be closely watched by EXCO members (refer to chart in pg 15). Bunk Time (Essentially time to relax in bunk area) Aim:
  • 10. Games are not enough to bond members together. They need some private time together in order to get to know each other better as they would not be bound by any rules or regulations. Group leaders will be briefed beforehand to prepare some activities for their groups during this time (such as playing hangman, or perhaps even chatting). Lecture with Dr Samuel Wong Aim To let members understand Chinese music better, and its ever-changing face in the modern world. Focused on the SYF pieces. Notes/WS are to be given out during the lecture to ensure that members have paid attention during the lecture. Movie Watching Aim: For members to relax during the evening while watching a movie. Also allows them to digest their meal. War Games Aim: To foster team bonding together via games requiring a high level of teamwork to win. Instructions: The objective of the game is to capture the opponents' flags. Two groups will be merged into one team, hence there are five teams in the game. Each group would have their own base assigned by the facilitators of the camp (Bases are marked with colors corresponding to teams: Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, White). Members are to put 1 sock each in their pants, leaving at least half of it sticking out. When the game starts, members can have the option of either trying to find enemies' bases to capture flags, or stay at their bases to guard their own flags. When encountering a member from a different group, one may send said member to the penalty area by pulling out the person's sock. That member would then have to go to the Main Atrium to receive a penalty (sing a song, run in circles etc). Throughout the entire course of the game, facilitators can choose to help any team depending on the situation. Facilitators are invulnerable, and thus cannot be sent the penalty box. They will be distinguished by wearing a black shirt. To capture the flag, one would have to take the flag (located in enemy's base) and bring it back to their own base. When that happens, the two teams would then merge, with the dominant team's color

This would continue until there is only 1 team left. That team would then be the winner. Instructions Members will undergo a series of exercises meant to warm up their body so as to prepare them for the Amazing Race. Such exercises include sit ups, push ups, and varied stretching. I/C is Zeqing. Amazing Race Aim • For the team to make coordinated decisions under the guidance of the group leader • For the members to feel that they are part of a team Instructions All groups will start off with a clue to the first stop. The objective of the game is to be the first team to reach the Pitstop, the location of which will be hinted in the envelope received upon arrival of the eighth stop. There are altogether 8 stops, 2 detours and 1 roadblock in the game. Stops are locations in which the team needs to go and a clue of the next location will be given upon arrival by the group leader. A clue to a detour will contain two clues; each clue hinting at the nature of the two different tasks. The difficulty of a task in a detour is usually offset by the distance of detour station from the stop. Both tasks will lead to the same next station. The roadblock (Murder Puzzle) will be at the location of the Pitstop, but it must be completed to advance to the Pitstop. Area of game will be in RI(S) and RI(JC). Point system included in pg16.
