Textual analysis PLL
1. Wide Shot of Character getting into car.
Eye level which gives the idea that no one is of much importance.
Track is used to follow the character that the audience needs to focus on.
Depth of field focus is used which gives the audience a real feel of the situation at hand.
2. Close up, reaction shot; gives the audience an idea of what the character is feeling
Selective focus allows the audience to focus on one characters feelings/emotions at a time.
Pan to right, focusing on each characters reaction
3. Very wide shot is used to again, show the surroundings of the scene.
Selective focus is used to highlight one character yet the audience can still see bits of what is going on
around him.
It is in the POV of the another character which makes us feel uneasy about how we should react to him.
4. A group, mid shot is used to show the group of girls and their reaction towards the character
that has just been shown.
It is eye level with the audience which gives the impression that we are the same as the
characters, again making us feel uneasy.
5. A medium close up, reaction shot is used to again, show the characters emotions.
The camera movement is unsteady which makes us feel on edge, furthermore there is a
slight track from one character to another.
6. This screenshot is a close up/cut in shot. It could also be said that it is an insert shot as it
has complete focus on the phone in one of the characters hands, implying to the
audience that this prop is important to the scene. The camera then pedestals up to get a
reaction shot from two of the characters.
7. There is then a mid shot of the other two characters to show a reaction shot of them. The
camera again slightly pans to the right, making the audience feel uneasy.
Selective focus is used again to highlight the two characters at hand but still shows some
mis-en-scene behind them to remind the audience of where they are.
8. There is then a group, wide shot of the girls. It still shows their reaction and the
importance of the prop is still shown as it is still in focus. Selective focus is used to
again, make the audience keep an eye on the girls but then still remember exactly
where they are.
9. This is a medium close up of the characters. It pans from right to left to show each
reaction shock of the characters present. The angle is still eye level like it has been
throughout, again showing that no character is of more importance.
10. The last screenshot, the camera has a mid, group reaction shot of the girls. The camera then
begins to zoom out then dolly out away from the girls. Building tension and showing the full
surroundings of where the scene is set.
