3. Background information Sustainability is when an item can be maintained for an indefinite amount of time without damaging the environment or without depleting a resource. That is, it is renewable. A way you can be sustainable is by composting. Composting involves substances that are biodegradable. If an object is biodegradable it means it can be absorbed into the earth and distribute harmless gasses. There are many different ways to compost.

4. The Experiment In this experiment, a worm compost will be utilized. A worm compost is a box, bin, or case that is filled with humus and red wiggler worms. The worms eat the food you put into the box and then the worms produce soil. Composting helps the environment and is one of the many ways to help turn this planet green.

10. What I learned Through this experiment I learned that composting is a EASY and FUN way of “recycling”. Composting saves money as well, for example you don’t need to go out and buy soil or manure, also you are spending less money on trash bags.
