Caldwalader was supposed to cross at Bristol with two thousand men, however they did not succeed
in crossing. Luckily Washington succeeded and caught the Hessians by surprise. The battle did not

Hessians and killed approximately one hundred while the Patriots only had 5 casualties (Murphy).

George Washington, America's first–born leader and president. He led his men through countless
wars and places, he did whatever it took to satisfy his country. He became our first president and
started something new that would change America for generations to come. This is what some
people think when they say George Washington, this how they recognize him but, there is more
story behind him. His life before he became a leader, back when he was growing up and
eventually leading up to become a hero. Also why he is important in history, what made George
Washington so significant in history what did he do besides become our president. This doesn't all
take place in the past, George Washington has also influenced our modern time today, we just don't
realize it. So in this essay, you'll learn all about what was just mentioned, this all about our first
president George Washington. George Washington didn't wake up and become our leader when he
was born, he had a childhood, a life before all of this even happened. On February 22, 1732 in the
more Western part of Virginia a boy was born, the parents were Augustine Washington and his
second–wife Mary Ball, they gave the boy a name everybody would remember forever, George
Washington. George lived in an area called Popes Creek, his brothers and sisters and he lived in a
small plantation house but, later moved. All what's really known about places he's moved too is
limited but, it's said he spent most of his life on a ferry

George Washington was the General in charge of the Continental Army which defeated the British
Empire in 1783. His title was Commander–in–Chief. He was elected as the first president of the
United States by the 2nd Continental Congress (elected by 50 to 56 Congressmen), because he was
elected before there was a United States. He didn't want the job. From what I've read he dreaded the
in–fighting, political maneuvering, and demands made by the members of the government as they
created and established a viable and sound government to meet the needs of the populace.
Washington just didn't want to be a part of the fray. Stories, myths may be a better name, sprung up
concerning the first president. For instance there is the myth that he was a deist, that is he believed

He was a lawyer from Illinois. He is famous for leading the Union Army to victory through his
Commanding General, Ulysses S. Grant. Lincoln is also know for ending slavery by creating the
Emancipation Proclamation and enacting it by executive order. The story concerning his
childhood and being poor is true. He did on a couple of occasions do homework on the back of a
shovel using a piece of coal, but he did normally have pencil and paper. The point of schools and
parents telling the story is to illustrate how self–discipline and determination are necessary for

Washington dealt with the rigors of building a government from scratch. The Congress had enacted a
tax on whiskey in order to raise funds. In order to put down the rebellion of farmers, Washington
personally led the militias of four states to Pennsylvania to put down the uprising. The twenty men
captured were put on trial, and two were found guilty. Rather than let the incident cause further
divisions, Washington pardoned the men, hoping for it to have a healing effect. He restrained those
around him from letting those two men take the full punishment, preferring instead to show mercy to
them. Washington was not noted for saying much at the Continental Congress or Constitutional
Convention. When he did speak, all listened. Perhaps the restraint he showed by talking less
frequently allowed what he did say to have more weight, so much weight that he was chosen as the
