Artemis spring event 2013
1. ARTEMIS SPRING EVENT 2013 Brussels
Opening and presentation. Plenary.
The role of ARTEMIS represent the Industry and many discussions for the futur. All type of
project that can participate will be decided in the comming weeks. For the futur it is important
that members participate to all sessions because that is what will decide of the substance.
The selection of proposal will end this week and members will receive the list.
Most of the first day is dedicated to information about the organisation of the brokerage event
and presentation of projects. The day 6 of june 17h00 is the last minute for sending the
proposals. Work programme and funding budgets are available on the Call website.
Serving application and societal challenges. "SRA" as a research topic. The project might be for
three to four years with 2.5 to 59 Million EURO. Partners from 8 to 56. 4 to 11 countries involved.
For Innovation Pilot Projects some of the budgets are exceeding 100 Milion euro.
Centers of Innovation Excellence are long-lived collaborations of partners. The Tool platform is
about collaboration of vendors and users, Covering design, non functional aspects and
agreements on processes.
Up to 30 expressions of interest received and help is available from ARTEMIS programme
officers. The association is based on enhancing collaboration in research and development with
200 Industry members.
Artemis-ia.eu is the best place for information about the call (click on the buton to get all
information.) The consorsium is requiered to answer to call and get the funding. September will
be the time for decisions.
Presenting skills as a partner is important for building the teams. Technology know-How is a
priority for matching participant and projects. List of participants and project proposals are
displayed inside the website space.
The presentation of results will happen and the co-summit ARTEMIS ITEA will be held in
Stockholm, december 2013.
The ARTEMIS programme and successes.
It is a public private partnership. It is more than a funding programme.
Principles focuse on THINK BIG, Acting in socio-economic, Act multi National within European
members and THINK Different. Creating the impact is requiered to make the effect efficient in
the Society. Clusters of projects will help to collect more projects and create a critical mass.
During the last calls, these clusters appears: Hi REL, Enr and cars, Low power processors,
Internet things, HMI, eHealth, Safety and securty, Manufactoring. More than 44 projects
participate to build the clusters structure. HI REL receive more funding, and then Green society,
foudational work on lower power multi core. ARTEMIS aims to have small projects coaching large
projects. Funds come from Industry, Nations and European budget.
585 companies participating, approximatly 1/3 for each kind of structure. The critical mass for
sustainable Innovation Eco-system is build on clusters and cooperations.
2. Outreach to the public have been increased by participation and Press release. SMEs are more
involved because funding comes from three types of organisations that are contributing to
enhance europeanization. Participation of states should happen earlier in the definition of
projects.
Afternoon.
Lara JONKERS wants to emphasize the importance of communication through social media.
ARTEMIS is using tweeter, youtube and linked-in for sharing knowledge, retrieving members
opinions and reactions.
Analysis of the call 2013, Expression of interest.
This EOI is volontary and it is only a preliminary step. Even though it as no legal value it is
usefull. It has a good response from the community with mature use for new proposals. Just
SMEs seems to under use EOI.
Project for ARTEMIS JU must be research valid goal. The aim will be analysed in term of realistic
and concrete impact within few years. The competition amongst projects is based on excelence.
The way to describe the project is available in the documentation on the website.
Questions about the future? JTI Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda of the ICT
Components and Systems Industries.
Council regulation scope will include design tecnologies, processes, and multidisciplinary
approaches for smart systems proposed by EINESSA.
Future of micro electronics toward smart systems:
Miniaturised devices will combine sensing, actuation and signal transmission. Smart systems will
thus be able to diagnose, predict, identify neighboor systems and interact with environment
adequatly.
Stimulation, criteria and energy will enable product to react to the context and rules for a better
actuation. The production of these Smart systems will be possible by cooperation of multiple
disciplins integrating knowledge and research result into prototypes. For example, BOSH e-
Compass will be able to interact with environment for a better reaction to electromagnetic fields
and reliable navigation. Also gas sensors without contact and wireless will detect leaks and report
with secure mode. For e-health, mamography system will enable detection with reduce
electromagnetic noises and damages. Hearing and heart monitoring will be enhanced for life
saving and better daily conditions. Electric vehicles will benefit from Smart systems for safety,
energy production, harvesting, traction, conversion. More than 30% of the value of a car will be
dedicated to Smart systems for city cars. Engines will be inside wheels, photovoltaic will collect
energy for better efficiency and batteries will also be modified.
Complete new devices will integrate economy with creation of jobs 827.600 only for R&D activity.
The common vision of future in electronics is pictured by interaction of Nanotechnologies, Smart
integrated systems and Architectures/Middleware.
3. AENEAS is an organisation managing nanotechnologies.
This Industry will contribute to a better futur and make great advance for any of our concerns
linked toEnergy, Transport, Green Economy, Health and more.
Embedded systems are observing, analysing and preparing reaction of our machines to the
environment conditions. These central neuronal systems are already in cars, planes and almost
all equipments used by professionals and famillies.
ARTEMIS 2nd day
Success for ARTEMIS programmes in phone connectivity and number.
I Arrowhead presentation:
Two challenges
Enabeling interoperability and integrability of devices, services and systems.
Protocols will be service oriented.
Arrowhead domain of application:
Production of goods, smart buildings, electro mobility, energy production, virtual market of
energy. TC/IP will be available everywhere and middleware tend to disappear. Key innovation:
harvesting, security, harsh environment, embedded services.
II CESAR: safety-critical embedded systems.
It is a consorsium of 50 industrial partners in different domains. Planes, trucks, oil platforms, and
other technological systems like boats.
CESAR sustainability in interoperability, tool integration, project cooperation, and results for
research get promising outreach in Universites and peer reviewed publications.
III EICOSE
European Institute for Complex Safety Critical Systems Engineering.
Is linked to SYSTEMATIC (also Aerospace Valley, Safe TRANS) and other international european
research programmes. It is supporting many aspects of technological advanced systems with the
aim of harmonising goals, tools and services.
Strategic alignement of european funding in technology is one of the main goals of EICOSE. It is
organising a technological eco system for the best development targets, with knowledge and
solution sharing.
Several managers received ARTEMIS awards for success of their projects.
