Philosophy can be described as a chance for person to undertake an opportunity to understand
themselves, our world and society, and relations between ourselves and one another. Those who
are able to study philosophy, can find out what is to be human, what kind of person is it good to be,
and especially how are we to live a good life. I, myself, have had an opportunity to take a philosophy
class and as my time in philosophy is starting to come to a close, I am suddenly realizing how
Philosophy has changed the aspects and my outlook upon my life.
When I had first signed up to partake in philosophy, I did expect to be bombarded with numerous
amounts of famous philosophers such as Protagoras, Socrates. Plato, Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, and
many more in such a short amount of time. In my mind, I presumed that we were to be learning a
minimal amount of information about a few philosophers; however, I pondered wrongly. As we
were learning about different philosophers, we did not only learn about their teachings, in a
textbook manner, but we learned about them as if we knew them as a family member. My
professor, Dr. Bass, makes his lectures on the philosophers relatable and influential. Basically, from
his lectures through the semester upon why we study philosophy is that their teachings influence
what we do today in our normal lives. Not only were the philosopher's famous in their theories and
writings, but they were helping us to achieve the idea of a good life.

I think philosophy and critical thinking skills are important tools, both for survival and for
flourishing as a person in the 21st century. Without these two skills we are missing the essentials of
our ethical identity. Ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle believed that philosophy and critical
thinking enable us to see the world uniquely, that things have a more profound meaning. Having
these skills encourages us to find out about ourselves, our surroundings, what things we give
meaning to, and what things we think gives us meaning. These tools are not only useful for

logically beyond what society teaches us. Sadly, most people today are so caught up in the latest
name brand clothes, shoes, technology, etc. that they lose track of who they really are or the meaning

This essay is reflection about my understanding from what I have learned during this class about
what philosophy is. Philosophy is a broad topic and can be hard to understand. What we learn is
class about philosophy defiantly makes me think and makes my brain turn all the time, but so far,

For the past six weeks, I learned how philosophy has influenced the world globally. Learning that

Another argument against dualism is the masked man fallacy. Under this argument you could be
at a party and see a masked man, who is actually you're good friend John. You know who John is
but you don't know who the masked man is. According to Leibniz's law John and the masked man
would have different properties and therefore could not be the same person, even though they are.
This shows that we may know X (John in this case) under one description but not under another,
and makes us se that some of the things we consider properties of an object are to do with how we
perceive that object, (Mary thinks apples taste bad but Lucy doesn't,) and are not actual properties.
You could say many of the properties that differentiate mind form matter could be described in this
way, for instance we view minds as private but someone with telepathy would argue that minds are
easily observable. So maybe by saying that mind is a different substance to matter we are making a

start thinking about it. I strongly believe that everything has a purpose and that you should try and

Her statement is a prime example of philosophy. The content of her testimonial consisted of many
supported ideas and thoughts. Yet, at the same time, the statement she made was rousing to anyone
that was perhaps overhearing or listening to the conversation. It upheld all the characteristics for a
good philosophical conversation. They include various aspects of diversity, thought, support and
liberalism.
Without philosophy the world would be incomplete. It is common knowledge that there is gray in
every argument, even the most miniscule, it is never black or white. Philosophy is what the gray
area consists of, different beliefs and ideas that cannot fit in either of the two groups. That is what
makes philosophy significant; there are no limits to it. There are no boundaries to what the human
mind can think and there are no unattainable dreams that one's mind cannot conceive. Therefore

My Teaching Philosophy I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom walls, and
involves many more people than students and teachers. People should be learning wherever they

The roles of a teacher are so many and so varied that it is impossible to list them all, but one of the
most important is preparing students to learn, not only in the classroom, but everywhere, and for
the rest of their lives. Learning is not a skill that is necessarily instinctual or easy, and therefore
different approaches must be used to make learning easier and more fun for students. Teaching is
not a skill that can be memorized or made repetitive, and so teachers must continue to challenge
not only their students, but also themselves. Teachers that become complacent in their jobs are
