The test hammer will hit the concrete at a defined energy. Its rebound is dependent on the hardness of the concrete and is measured by the test equipment.
2. Schmidt Hammer
• Rebound hammer test is done to find out the compressive strength
of concrete by using rebound hammer as per IS: 13311 (Part 2) -
1992. The underlying principle of the rebound hammer test is:
The rebound of an elastic mass depends on the hardness of the
surface against which its mass strikes.
• A simple equipment known as Rebound Hammer or Schmidt
Hammer is used for this purpose. The Schmidt rebound hammer is
principally a surface hardness tester. The Original Schmidt is
available in models with different impact energies, each test
hammer designed for a specific test application.
