Utilisinganarrative approach that sexual abuse doesnotonlydepriveapersonof theirbasicrights,but
overtime itcan have an increasinglystronginfluence onhow a person’sidentityorperceptionof
themselvesisshaped.The abuse thereforeplaysamajorrole increatingand thusproducinga person’s
identityandreality. Problemsanddifficultiesthatare experiencedbysurvivorswhohave beensexually
assaultedare oftenthe resultof deliberate tricksandliesbythe abuser(inordertoprotectthemselves).
Oftenabusersencourage secrecy,self-blame,guilt,mistrust,andasense of powerlessness,aswellasa
sense of overall responsibilityforothers.
 Assistsurvivors toexhibitextraordinarypersonal resourceandstrengths. Assistclientstorealise
these strengths canbe utilised toresistandovercome the effectsof sexual abuse.
 That problemsare oftencreatedandstemfromthe teachingreceivedfromthe abuserand
messagesreceivedfromthe communityandbynomeansare theya faultinthe survivor’s person.
 Survivorsare the expertsintheirownlives,asacounselorassistingclientstoutilise theirown
strength,resilienceandself-determination.
 Maintainconcise files anddataentry accessible byclients,maintainingthe knowledgethatthese

Problemsanddifficultiesthatare experiencedbysurvivorswhohave beensexually assaultedare oftenthe resultof deliberate tricksandliesbythe abuser(inordertoprotectthemselves). Oftenabusersencourage secrecy,self-blame,guilt,mistrust,andasense of powerlessness,aswellasa sense of overall responsibilityforothers.  Assistsurvivors toexhibitextraordinarypersonal resourceandstrengths. Assistclientstorealise these strengths canbe utilised toresistandovercome the effectsof sexual abuse.  That problemsare oftencreatedandstemfromthe teachingreceivedfromthe abuserand messagesreceivedfromthe communityandbynomeansare theya faultinthe survivor’s person.  Survivorsare the expertsintheirownlives,asacounselorassistingclientstoutilise theirown strength,resilienceandself-determination.  Maintainconcise files anddataentry accessible byclients,maintainingthe knowledgethatthese documentsmaybe subpoenaedbythe familycourt.  Provide outcome strengthbasedcounsellingtoclients,theirfamiliesandsignificantothers.  Provide educationtoservices,educational facilities,Policeandmedical staff toensure the communityremainsinformedof the impact,effectandunexpectedratesof sexual assaultto assistinreducingthe commonalityof thisunacceptablecrime.  Provide uptodate informationtoclientsandthe communityandensure thatall informationis maintainedandrelevantwithcurrentfindings,statisticsanddata.  Engage in regularsupervision,teamsupervision,studentsupervisionandprofessional developmenttoensure exceptional clientcare andcommunitydevelopment.  Maintaina strong commitmenttochallengingall pre-conceivednotionsthat sexualassaultisthe faultof the survivorandnotthe perpetrator.
