2. I. Presentation and problems : The Earth has warmed up since the 19th century. In Rhône-Alpes, the temperature increased from 2°C between 1922 and 2008. We can see the effect of Global warming by the melting of the glaciers. The volume of snow has reduced by 40 % in 40 years. There are changes in the flow of water. This is caused by the human activity which reinforces the greenhouse effect generating a big concentration of gases from fossil combustibles. The region adopted in april 2005 a regional plan to develop renewable energy.
4. The atmosphere, retaining a portion of solar radiation and the heat of the earth, can keep the Earth's surface temperature favorable to life. Without these gases, which act like a greenhouse in capturing solar radiations, the temperature of the Earth would be -18 ° C. Three gases play a major role: water steam, ozone and carbonic. In 1997, the Kyoto Protocol, which aims at reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases, has been ratified by 165 countries.
5. III. Consequences : The most famous French glacier, the « Mer de Glace » , has lost 150 m in thick and 1km in length since 1850.

7. IV. Solutions: Fuels and alternative vehicles can participate in the reduction of emissions as well as electric vehicles and vehicles powered by natural gases as the pure vegetable oils, the super ethanol (E85) and the biodiesel. Develop renewable energy. Today, the European Union has conferences to find solutions like the Kyoto Protocol.
