Drupal doesn't have a roadmap, but should probably consider it a bit harder.

When Product Managers begin their jobs, the focus tends to be on what is the biggest game-changer of a product/product enhancement they can ship. Oftentimes, understanding the user is the key part of the process that gets lost in this shuffle. During this talk, Sunny went over the importance of understanding the user, techniques on how to work with UX Researchers, triangulating these qualitative findings with hard data and crafting your roadmap with this information.

This webinar was presented by Rachida Amsaghrou for UXPA on Wednesday, June 3, 2020. Product Inclusion consists in applying inclusion throughout the product lifecycle to enhance product features and user adoption. Designing a product that fulfills the expectations of a wide range of users is no easy task. The workforce tasked with building inclusive products needs to reflect the diverse needs global users have, hence the importance of diversity in the workforce. This diversity needs to be cross-functional and present at every stage of the product design and development. Another pre-requisite to product inclusion is Know Your Customer to build products that reflect what they need and want. This will help better segment the market and reach a wider audience. This webinar will examine the many dimensions of diversity in product inclusion and provide an overall picture of the current initiatives in this new field.

The Agile Manifesto makes little mention of anyone except developers pairing with each other. Designers and developers should work more closely. Share desk space, war stories, and insight into customers and technology. From better mutual understanding comes better results. In this presentation from YOW! Connected 2015, developer Charles Korn and designer Greg Skinner discuss just how valuable designer and developer pairing can be. They use examples to cover off pairing developers with designers: from understanding of the customer to the opportunities presented by the technology, and why it’s so relevant in our IoT, mobile, and multi-touchpoint society.

Today, we are expected to be both fast and flexible. We need to react to changes at a moment’s notice and always be ready to pivot our course of action. Understanding how we need to change, and why, comes from creative activities like user research. But working fast can make it hard to find the time for this kind of creative work. That’s where design sprints come in. These concentrated bursts of team collaboration mean getting together for days or a week to focus on a specific design challenge. Design sprints are intense, but are usually very productive. But what happens if your team is remote? In this free webinar, designer Laïla von Alvensleben from the design agency Hanno shares her insights on conducting design sprints with a remote team. Her advice is based on years of research and practical experience with clients like Über and Lenovo. We know remote design can be daunting, so we’ve brought Laïla to the spotlight to ease our fears and show us how to have speed, quality design and a distributed team.

My Agile 2013 session 'Rapid Product Design in the Wild'. In August 2012 Red Gate attended Kscope, a conference for Oracle developers. Instead of doing the usual product demonstrations, we turned our stand into a live lab and took Agile development processes out of the office and in front of our customers. Our stand included an area for customer research, a Kanban board and information radiators in the form of a whiteboard, blank wall and a large digital screen. Over 3 days we ran 9 sprints and conducted 25 customer interviews, using a paper prototype to get feedback. We collected invaluable information about our customers' development environments, how they work with their teams, their processes, tasks and pain points. By the end of the conference my colleague had developed an interactive HTML/CSS prototype which potential customers could evaluate. The team went through several rapid build-measure-learn cycles to improve our product concept and validate the market need. This presentation explains the process we used and introduces the Live Design Lab Planner, a tool which helps teams to plan this type of rapid product design activity.

You have probably seen the terms DesignOps and/or ResearchOps float by in your social media queue. These teams make designing (and researching) at scale beautifully efficient and successful. Carol steps through how these teams work, the types of activities they perform, situations they are helpful for, and ways you can leverage these types of programs in your organization. Carol will share examples from her experiences and stories from other organizations that are using Design Ops to do effective design at scale. Waterfall vs Agile The basic trait of civilization is order and protocol. The chaos and non-structured attempts to build something has never resulted in a fruitful outcome in any spectrum. Software Development isn’t an exception either.

If you’d like an alternative to typical, quarter-by-quarter, schedule oriented road mapping (and all the associated waste) then this session is for you. Matt Barcomb will introduce a Cadenced Flow approach to flow-based road mapping. He will first cover how to layout and execute a road map based on models that better fit software planning as well as how to transform your existing plans. Next, using options thinking to frame work will be explored and how to use starting and stopping triggers for options, reducing the need of blind budgeting or project practices. Finally, Matt will wrap up by touching on a few key metrics that will let you monitor and evaluate your new road map.

This tutorial was presented in the IEEE Big Data Conference in 2019. It shows that building and running a big data platform for both real-time streaming and batch data processing for all kinds of applications involving analytics, data science, reporting, and the like in today’s world can be as easy as following a checklist. We live in a fortunate time that many of the components needed are already available in the open source or as a service from commercial vendors. This tutorial shows how to put these components together in multiple sophistication levels to cover the spectrum from a basic reporting need to a full fledged operation across geographically distributed regions with business continuity measures in place. This tutorial provides enough information and checklists to the audience that it can also serve as a goto reference in the actual process of building and running.

Ever caught yourself nodding along when someone mentions "delivering value" in Agile, but secretly wondering what the heck they actually mean? You're not alone! Join us for an eye-opening session where we'll strip away the buzzwords and dive into the heart of Agile—value delivery. But what is "value"? Is it a mythical unicorn in the world of software development, or is there more to this overused term? This isn't going to be a sit-and-get lecture. We're talking about a face-to-face, interactive meetup where YOU play a crucial role. Come along to: Define It: What does "value" really mean? We’ll build a definition that’s not just words, but a compass for your Agile journey. Contextualise It: Discover what value means specifically to you, your team, your company, and your industry. Because one size does not fit all. Deliver It: Share strategies and gather new ones for uncovering and delivering true value—no more shooting in the dark!
