Your purpose - Academic Purpose?- Job?
Job title- Does the position need all my experience/ qualifications?
Specific requirements (Company/ University)- What do they expect?
Question.
Because you all are planning to apply for your internship.
It is the first point you contact someone. It is not only you physically meet someone, but also in first communication like email, telephone calls etc.
Why first impression is so important.
Because people will get a perception on you by your first point of contact.
Remember when we call for interviews we get many applications.
From a interviewers point of view, you are just one Resume out of 100*number of universities.
Of course there are many other ways to standout like involving in different extra curricular activities like GSA/MSP/SL2College/SLASSCOM… But scoping to today’s topic, I’ll focus on standing out using your resume.
Let me go through one by one, but with few sample Resumes.
Question: How long do you think a reviewer looks at your Resume?
Poor presentations can
Hide your most important background and skills from the recruiter
Stop your CV from being read fully
Convey a poor standard of work impression in the mind of recruiter
Ultimately stop your application form going to the next stage
When it comes to Resume, it’s just a small subset of things you have done. But the CV, it’s about your whole life.
Yes of course the CV is another doc.
But you can also have the CV online. One way for that it LinkedIn.
When you need to find an internship or a job what you do? You will create resumes. And send to the company you like to apply.
That is all good.
But what if 100s of other companies who desperately search you for your matching skills find you?
As an example lets say you are very good at development using Python. But the company you are applying may not need of much expertise in Python. But there may be 10s of companies who are desperately looking for Expertise in Python which you don’t know.
Therefore we are in need of a Bridge which match you and your potential employers.
Also when you apply for a job, you need to give the best first impression in all the aspects.
Leading online professional directory which is used by the professionals for networking, connecting, and job searching.
Do you know what most professional recruiters do when they have to interview someone? They just search the name on Google. So if you can, just search your name on Google and see what pops up in the first page?
Your FB page? Twitter?
The cool thing with LinkedIn is it has very high Google Visibility. More than Twitter or Facebook. So if you have a sound profile on LinkedIn, it will be the top result pops when someone search your name on Google.
- And the catch is, if your LinkedIn profile is incomplete, same profile will give the negative impression.
Not the place to share your party photos,
Or posts about how cute your cat is!
Now let me go through a walkthrough on how you should create your LinkedIn profile! Keep this noted. After the session we will create or update your linkedIn profile today itself.
There are good photos to post and not so good photos to post.
A good one - alone, appropriate cloth, pleasant expression on your face, and a simple background.
NOT - a picture with your friend with making weird faces.
Recommendations:
- From your lecturers, internship supervisors
- Don’t ask all your friends to recommend you and make a mess out of it. It will show a negative impression about you.
