2. Patriarchy is a political-social system that
insists that males are inherently dominating
superior to everything and everyone deemed
weak, especially women.
It is thinking that it is their dignity in
dominating something.
3. Our Indian tradition is heavily biased in
favour of men, the upper castes and the
landed class
What do you make of a tradition where the
word for ‘husband’ (pati) just as often means
‘owner’??
- The moment a girl is born, the golden chance
for the world to present her with carefully
designed rule book.
4. In our Indian society the girls are made to
realise that ` well you're the weaker sex ‘.
It is like ‘you were not supposed to exist but
now that you do, better follow us.’
Patriarchy has been prevalent in our society for
years, in sometimes obvious and otherwise
latent forms.
Patriarchy is served at our dining table, where
men get the first meal while women serve.
5. Take a look at marriages – after marriage, a girl
is supposed to leave her family and move in
with her husband’s family. She is supposed to
sacrifice her dreams and begin again. It is not
just about women who are struggling to earn an
identity, for a woman the struggle seems to
never end.
Even women who have reached the
boardrooms have to prove their potential and
fight to be taken seriously.
6. The short answer is YES
But we don’t see any such incidences in our
family?-
It’s because India is not just Delhi NCR,
Mumbai, Bangalore or Chennai. India denotes
the whole country.
7. Feminism refers to giving equal rights to
women.
But currently no one knows what does
feminism means- equality or superiority?
Eg: - Jasleen kaur vs Saravjeet singh
Feminism only serves to the rich and high class
of society but what about the women in the
villages of India who even don’t know that they
live in a democratic country and have all the
basic rights, and are not slaves of men.
8. India needs Feminism because-
1. There are 940 women to every 1000 men.
2. 71% of women don’t work.
3. 35% of women are illiterate.
4. Approximately 2 million baby girls are killed every year.
5. 2 women are raped every hour.
6. Women’s are subjected to domestic violence in India.
7. Acid attack crimes are increasing at rapid rates since
2014
8. We have dowry homicide rate of 0.7 per 100,000.
9.
10. Push for culture of excellence- To hold men
accountable for their language and actions. This
means countering the `Boys will be Boys’ idea.
Support a spectrum of ideas of what a “real
men” looks like- Such as those
compassionate and responsible. We need to
stop holding up “ macho” or “the tough, silent
type” as a gold standard of maleness.
Because men of quality respects women
equality.
11. Reframe patriarchy as an issue for
everyone-
Since patriarchy has no gender, thus it’s going to
take all people to combat it.
India needs feminism because patriarchy
enslaves both men and women.
India needs feminism because you don’t need
society to tell you what a `REAL’ man or woman
is, your identity is for you to choose.
14. It is very important for a women to stand on
her own feet no matter what.
Smoking kills but so does patriarchy.
To be a free woman it is important to shrug
off the dubious cloak of “protection” that
patriarchy offers.
When a baby girl is born don’t gift her a book
suggesting how she is supposed to live her
life.
