3. The Roaring Twenties During the 1920’s, America’s economy was booming. In New York, the financial hub of America, Wall Street was bursting with promise. It was also during this time that aerial photography became more accessible. An aerial survey of New York City was conducted by the Fairchild Aerial Camera Corporation.
5. Photography as an art form… Alfred Stieglitz He started many art galleries for photography in New York City which is how it began to be accepted as an art form. He incorporated a lot of European artists' work in his galleries as well. The peak of this movement was in the 1920’s. "Venetian Canal" (1894) Alfred Stieglitz
9. Rolling through the decades… In the decades between 1940s and 1990s, the economy went through less significant ups and downs. The changes implemented during the New Deal and the production spurred by a war-time economy and increased government spending stabilized the economic cycles. 1960s 1980s
10. The 1990’s Boom Starting in 1991, the world economy boomed. Factors that contributed to this boom included the increasing accessibility and popularity of the internet, the technology boom and a bull market which is defined by rising stock prices. DID YOU KNOW?
14. As Wall Street changed with every rise and fall of the economy, photography changed as well. Starting as something not even considered an art form, and available to very few, photography is now a medium of expression for every person who so desires it. Through Flickr, which we use in this presentation, photography has become universal and helps document its own progression while also recording all other kinds of history.
