Job summary â serves as the Information-Reference librarian and assists the head
librarian with work activities relative to conventional and electronic reference service
and program; collection and facilities management, maintenance and security; access
to digital and print information resources; and office and administrative functions and
needs
Typical duties and responsibilities
⢠attends to users for their information needs; interviews and screens
applicants for referrals;
⢠greets visiting users and interviews them to identify their specific information
needs and refers them to appropriate section and collection;
⢠provide usersâ assistance in accessing online subscriptions, searching and
retrieving information by downloading, printing, and e-mailing search results;
⢠receives telephone calls and refers these to concerned persons;
⢠collects, sorts, and shelves new acquisitions and used materials;
⢠shelf reads and re-shelves dislocated materials in their right place;
⢠designs and layouts promotional materials such as flyers, pathfinders,
bibliographies, webliographies, guides, signs, graphical presentations and
tutorials for printing and mounting on the library web site using appropriate
software;
⢠processes and delivers documents and materials requested by external and
internal patrons under the document delivery and interlibrary-loan service;
⢠collects, receives, sorts, records and indexes online vertical file materials;
⢠assists in touring and briefing individual guests and groups in the library;
⢠collects payment for printing service; issues receipts, and submits collected
funds to the head;
⢠handles the requisitioning of supplies and consumables, photocopying, and
binding needs of the section;
⢠assists in the build-up of digital reference collection by searching and
downloading full text Internet resources, organizing and classifying them for
easy retrieval;
⢠compiles usage or access statistics monthly, trimester and annually and
submits them to the head;
⢠keeps and maintains accurate, systematic and up to date catalogs, indices,
memos, reports, office policies, and other working files;
⢠backs-up electronic office or administrative records and files;
⢠informs faculty of the arrival of their requested items either by e-mail or
telephone; assists the head in the preparation of staff work schedule;
⢠checks in and out materials using the circulation module;
⢠checks newly acquired materials against delivery lists and inspects their labels
and their physical condition;
⢠maintains orderliness, cleanliness and discipline in the section;
