2. INTRODUCTION
As a part of social initiative, KCTBS has organised a
community engagement project from 1st February to 5th
February 2013.
As a group of 9, we were engaged to the villages of
Karamadai for spreading the awareness about the essentials
of using solar lights.
We were also asked to survey their willingness to construct
hygienic individual toilets, their interest to join self help
group and their interest to work at ITC’s new Agarbakthi
unit
3. OREINTATION ABOUT CEP
During the orientation program,
A team from Imayam has explained about their objectives
and the importance of community engagement project.
The target people are those who are under the poverty line
and can only consume the solar products at subsidiary rate.
To make the vision wide spread the group of 9 is further
divided into sub groups of 2 members each.
4. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITY
• The primary objective of the project is to create awareness
among the people to utilize the CSR of ITC.
• ITC is providing solar lights and hygienic individual toilets
at a subsidiary price.
• We were there to spread the usefulness of the projects and
make the survey of those who are interested.
5. METHODOLOGY
• The methodology used to perform the survey is an
structured questionnaire.
• Hence to obtain precision on survey, the same questions are
asked to all kinds of people.
• The questionnaire was designed by Imayam in the way that
they can filter people into various categories.
8. SOLAR LIGHT
The price per unit of electricity has hiked up
There is enormous shortage of power
This issue can be solved by introducing an affordable
alternative which is efficient and costs less (i.e.)
introduction of solar powered lamps
Since solar lamps are costlier, ITC is providing the lamps
at a subsidiary rate
ITC contribution - 2000
Individuals Contribution - 2200

ITC has planned to setup an agarbathi unit in the villages
of karamadai to power up the employment opportunity for
women.
The lower income people can meet their day to day
expenditure through this income.
We had an overwhelming response for this scheme by the
people of Karamadai.

17. LOCATION CHITS
• Some homes did not have paper in which we can write the
address of contact.
• Some took long time to find a sheet of paper. This is
because in most of the homes which we have visited people
are either working nor aged people.
18. SPEAKING CHART
In order to create interest among the people, we made a self-
explaining chart which speaks about
Organizers name (KCTBS, ITC and Imayam)
Importance of using solar lights
Contribution for solar light and individual toilets.
Address of contact
Awareness about employment opportunity in agarbakthi
unit
20. SIGNATURE CAMPAIGN
To make the event more interesting, we conducted a
Signature campaign in which people actively signed in the
chart after knowing the importance of using Solar lamps
and the infections caused by unhygienic toilet practices.
22. LEARNINGS
There are more people in the society where they don’t even
have the basic needs of life like proper toilets and these
people must be provided with proper financial assistance in
order to get their basic needs.
An encouraging and positive sign that we have learned
from the village is that most of the people have provided
education for their childrens even though they lack
financial stability and some of the basic needs of life.
23. LEARNINGS
After undertaking this project only we understood the
importance of solar lights which helps in protecting our
environment and saving energy needs like power.
Apart from earning more and targeting on higher profits
from business the society around us which is suffering has
also should be taken care- of only then we can grow
collectively and our country can prosper.
24. FUTURE PLANS
Few people rejected the individual toilet facility because of
the lack of financial support. Therefore the company could
assist them by providing credit installment on monthly
basis.
Few people live in rented homes and hence they avoid
spending for toilets. Proper awareness should be created
about the unhygienic toilet practices.
People belonging to the same villages could be engaged in
the implementation of these projects (i.e.) in construction
works which provide them with extra income.
25. CONCLUSION
By this Project we have created awareness among the
people about the usage of solar lights which is very
essential for a developing economy like India suffering
from power shortages.
We have also described about the hazards of unhygienic
trade practices and gave them a solution of constructing
toilets at a subsidiary rate by ITC.
Our sincere thanks to KCTBS and the Imayam team for
providing this excellent opportunity.
