2. 9.1 Adding and Subtracting Polynomials pg. 426 to 431
Recall that a monomial is.... ONE thing
A Polynomial is monomials separated by + or - signs
3. Polynomials are classified by their quot;degreesquot;
The degree of a polynomial is the HIGHEST exponent
ex.
What do you notice about the exponets in the above example?
4. When writing a poynomial in standard form--the term witht he
HIGHEST exponent goes first and the rest are in descending order.
ex.
Some polynomials have special names---make sure you can recognize
them.
5. Adding Polynomials is really easy....
--Just add the coefficients of the like terms
--DO NOTHING with the exponents--they are only there for
you to match the terms together.
6. Adding Polynomials is not that hard----
-Just remember--you are doing NOTHING with the exponents
except using them to match up.
7. Adding Polynomials helps you to solve more complicated
problems involving geometry concepts--
THINK about what it is asking you and APPLY the concept....
