Ramnath UI Prototyping
1. UI Prototyping The following slides contain : 1. Initial sketches (drawn on paper and quickly iterated) as a result of the discussion with client representatives. 2. More detailed prototypes (done on photoshop / powerpoint) generated for user reviews These were done as a result of direct interaction with users of The Boston Consulting Group, a major consulting company at the client site in Frankfurt and later handed over to visual design team. Decisions on interaction design samples were also made.

Users Dashboard – A sample prototype generated. The visibility and order of portlets are fully customizable.
Search Results screen (Best Results View) – Initial sketch generated after Users need assessment
These are the normal search results. The left portion of the screenshot is a preview of the first / best matched result for the searched query. Selecting (clicking a title on right) a search result loads the summary view on the left pane.
Search Results screen (Big Picture View) – Initial sketch generated after Users need assessment. This view is useful for finding related search terms / phrases, if an exact search keyword is not known.
This is the search result screen in Big Picture View. As seen on right side of the picture, a concept named “The big picture” was used as a tab along with the normal textual search results. A user interested in related topics for his search query would find this useful. This was introduced in the solution as many users had a problem of properly phrasing their search query.
Document slides / pages preview – Initial sketch generated after Users need assessment
A preview of a PowerPoint document from a search result would be a set of thumbnails of the initial slides. A link is provided at Document Title area to find ‘other experts’ for the searched topic, if the user is not satisfied with the result. The next slide was our suggestion – A ‘Social Distance’ Diagram for experts on a particular topic.
For the document (search result) under consideration, the author and other experts on the particular topic may be viewed as a “Social Distance Diagram”. This diagram was a result of several user inputs where, if user needs further clarification, the author or any other expert may be contacted. The user can also identify online and offline users at that moment for initiating a chat. Experts are also grouped into Ranks according to the ratings of their contributions on the topic searched.
