2. My teaching Pedagogy... The aim of education should be to teach us rather how to think, than what to think - rather to improve our minds, so as to enable us to think for ourselves, than to load the memory with thoughts of other men. ~Bill Beattie Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school. ~Albert Einstein
3. According to John Locke, children are like ‘blank slates’. Therefore, it is important for teachers, that are with the child majority of the day, to teach them lifelong skills. These skills should include how to think independently and critically. The theory content may be forgotten, like quoted by Albert Einstein, however, the skills will remain forever, which is how he defined education.
4. PDHPE is vitally important to teach these impressionable young minds to live a healthy lifestyle. An alarming figure of 20-25% of Australian children are obese, that is 1 in four children. My aim is to teach skills that can be used throughout their life time. These skills will include how to take care of one’s body, and how to incorporate physical activity most daily tasks. Children will learn how to research reliable sources and critically analyse information to develop personalised strategies to stay healthy, physically and mentally. I will facilitate the childrenslearning to make that connection between health and academic achievement or whatever the child’s objective in life.
5. I end with a quote by Robert Maynard Hutchins, “The object of education is to prepare the young to educate themselves throughout their lives” Feel free to contact me if there are any concerns, issues or for more information.
