1. I took your V.A. online training while on my vacation(in Dubai).
I initially opened an oDesk account already just in case. But I
never got anything.
2. After returning from vacation, I immediately revamped and
filled up my oDesk(including the VA blog that i hadn’t submitted
to you). After about week (more or less) I got a gig doing SEO,
calling to the US, doing some graphics for souvenir items, editing
a website and campaigning for a cause in general (my client is
very active in civil rights, etc).

and see what else is in store…
4. Then, just last night (about 4 days after I got my first gig),

again. The weird thing was, I wasn’t interviewed. Nakita ko lang
na 3 messages ko sa oDesk inbox ko(that was sent to me 2
hours back pa). 1st was to “welcome” me, the next 2 emails
where about what to do na sa jobs. yun lang. Then payment
verified naman sya kaya ayus lang.

Ang nakakagulat pa was, the whole day ko hinintay kung may
notice man lang na interview or kung “declined”. Muntik
na akong hindi magbukas ulet ng oDesk kagabi (that was close
to midnight na) dahil akala ko wala ng magnnotice.
Actually, 2 days before this second gig, I had an “interview” (pero
sa oDesk lang) with another client who wanted to do SEO but I
was late na in replying kaya siguro nakahanap na sya ng ibang
mahihire. That prompted me to open my oDesk from time to time
talaga just in case… and I was right.
I think I got the gig primarily because of the VA blog, supported
by my main blog and the carbonmade portfolio site.
Buy I only attracted non-specialized employers gawa ng hindi pa
convincing enough ang portfolio ng graphics ko.
Kaya naman, I sure will invest in premium sites lalo na’t I’m back
to work.

with two books, a notebook and an umbrella. I spent

You have problems with un-employment or under-

The answer is here – being a Virtual Assistant (VA) is
just the first step – it’s even the answer to FLOOD
problems right? Because while it’s pouring tons
outside, I’m just in my pajamas this morning with 2
children on top of me – making me into their horse.
But still I can take a few steps after that – get dressed
in Tshirt and shorts and “start working”.
You know this is not just me. Many people I have
taught (and a bunch more who discovered this by
themselves) are doing a similar thing this rainy
monday (in Manila at least).
But here’s the “issue”: Some Virtual Assistants (VA)
take on two clients just to earn more. For example, if
you’re earning $5/hour with one client who wants you
to work for 4 hours a day work (part time) — you
make $20/day. That’s like P 1000 a day (approx P
20,000 for a month – working 4 hours day on
weekdays only).
P 20,000 a month part time at home is good eh?

But what if that isn’t enough for you?
You with two school children is Montessori or in La
Salle, for example?
Or you who’s making ends meet for both your family

I was employed in a bank for twenty years when I

replaced, things took a turn for the worse. My pay
started coming in late. The new VP was “mataray.”
On top of that, I was given a pay cut. For months, I
considered resigning from the company, but I didn’t
have the courage (I’m still the breadwinner in our
family, by the way.) I was too scared until I shared
my story with Jomar.

How Do I Overcame It
Well this was the same story I had when I started. BS
Computer Science degree, has no formal selling or
maketing training. Didn’t listen to my mentors in my
MLM (networking company) so my sales were very
low and everybody left me literally alone in Forever
Living (the MLM). I didn’t read marketing books, I was
trying to apply Rich Dad Poor Dad concepts
practically on my own and was trying to convert the
contents of the book One Minute Millionaire into
something that can earn me something extra. It didn’t
work and I’ve tried for years. All my skill in using the
internet wasn’t enough. All my skill in programming
VMS C and Visual Basic wasn’t enough.
This went on for more than 10 years until I chanced
upon the Manila based concerts of three of my
favorite Christian Music Acts. You know the story, I
volunteered to promote them because I loved them. I
promoted them while learning how to promote through
the inputs of marketing masters from my MP3 player
(thought i couldn’t afford an Ipod then) all in a span of
one month per concert.
Marketing was the magic sauce that converted my
ideas into money. Real money. Not an adsense
account that you have to wait to reach $ 100 to

collect. My first effort got me more than my monthly
salary income in as little as 30 days since I began.
But I didn’t stop there. A Marketing Guru said once “I
purchase a lot of marketing books, some of them I
haven’t read, I think that staring at them in my little
library has made me smarter!” I believe he’s right –
counter intuitively, because eventually you will reach
out for those books and read some of them. It beats
having nothing to read at home – because you said
“I’m not buying because I’m not reading today.”
Someday you will and it’s great to have resources at
arms length when you do.

My Experience with Masterminds

I've been privileged to attend online Masterminds with
foreign entrepreneurs and it's really a different feeling
to be in a meeting with very succesful people talking
about our own businesses and helping each
other. To be honest, I was the only Pinoy there so I
mostly listened to all these Caucasians. And galing

wanted to buy whatever he was selling! But he wasn't
selling to us, he's helping us sell our stuff. Lots of
things to learn from your peers, I realized.

I've also dug into the stuff I purchased through the
years and found a recording of a mastermind done by
marketing powerhouses: Gary Halbert, John Carlton,
Mark Victor Hansen, Robert Allen, Brian Tracy plus
their wives, their marketing vice presidents and
actress Melanie Griffith plus 30+ other entrepreneurs.
It was incredible the way they gave their answers to
the challenge of the day : "How to pre-sell 1 million
books 1 year before you print it." When like minded
people come together, the effect is 1000x plus points
on your business and mindset.

But reality is, you can't pick up a mastermind from 7-
11 or order it using your iPhone or Blackberry - and
people do not just call you up to join their mastermind

I had friends who created a small business way back
in college and boy, did they get into an extended
argument about wages, work and share of

they did most of the hard work but didn't invest any
money. They're still good friends today, thanks to a
common strong love for God and each other.

The words "self-made success" and "self-made

Jomar Hilario really gave us more than our money's
worth! Specially, I like most our those extras wherein
you suddenly unintentionally blurted out great ideas
and worthwhile practical tips in between the formal
outlined topics or tasks.

I would call them "Pearls" in learning this craft! You
started with inspiring us and, eventually, pushing us to
wake up from our deep slumber to realize our most
passionate dreams!

So, you provided us a darn good reason to pursue
this venture religiously after this workshop. Initiating a
"mindset" for entrepreneurship was not an easy task
to instill within our intellect.

To end up your workshop with a free dinner in a
nearby decent resto with you as our host was really
enticing. Japanese food was really luscious.
But, what's more valuable was spending your
precious moment with us to answer casually more
direct personalized inquiries concerning each one's
strategic business plans. And, of course, we get to
know each other better. A great fellowship night to

This is precisely the reason why I've already gathered
