2. Distribution
The largest predator in our country is the brown
bear. He lives in Rila Mountain, Pirin Mountain,
Rhodope Mountain, Stara Planina Mountain and
even Vitosha mountain. It inhabits woodlands.
3. Lifestyle and
Nutrition
The brown bear feeds on roots, acorns and young
grasses. Likes:
strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, wild
apples, plums, pears, melons and ants.
In the summer the brown bear spent considerable
time in feeding. It needs 14 kg of food per day.
The majority of the winter the brown bear spent in
sleep in their caves. It lives from accumulated fat in
the summer, but if they get hungry go outside.
When food is not enough, the bear kills smaller than
the animals and rarely humans.
The life of the brown bear is 30 years.
4. The brown bear is a wanderer. The animal has a place to eat, another to sleeps, third - only for walk,
fourth - for nap. When the bear looking for a winter den can go away from own lands. Her favorite
place, however, is that which grow berries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, walnuts, hazelnuts.
There is nothing more attractive to the bears from these places, even they are meadows, juniper
forest or silver pines, in the valley creek or deep forests of Pirin.
5. Territorial disputes between bears are resolved without
opponents even get together. To mark its area, the male
stands till a tree, stretch legs and make a scrawl with the
huge claws on the bark. The next contender comes, measure
their growth in the same way, and if it can, make higher
scrawl . From this time, the second bear gets new ruler of
the territory. If not - continues its journey.
6. Procreation
The cubs are born during a
hibernation of bears.
The female gives birth every 2-3
years from 1 to 3 pups that start the
life naked and blind. They weigh only
350 grams usually. They suck milk
from his mother until the age of three
months and grow rapidly. In the
spring, go out to play and learn to
hunt.
