In an approach that focuses both on the causes and consequences of climate change, Rotterdam invests heavily in the comprehensive climate file, setting a unique and inspiring example for others to follow. The ambitions and results in the area of climate change, energy and water management contribute to a sustainable, attractive and economically successful city. • Rotterdam, its partners and inhabitants are committed to a better climate. Efforts and projects aim to achieve 50% reduction of CO2 emissions – mitigation. • Rotterdam focuses on permanent protection and accessibility of the city and port, despite climate change. Adaptation measures will lead to full climate change resilience by 2025 – adaptation. • The consequences of climate change include a rising sea level, river runoff changes, more extreme rain showers and periods of drought. • Innovative solutions are required to prevent nuisance. At the same time, this offers Rotterdam additional opportunities for an attractive and economically more successful city. The ambitions for the city as a whole are translated in ambitions for our developments currently taking place in the innercity of Rotterdam [gebiedsontwikkelingen]: Every development must result in a more child friendly, green, clean and healty environment.
