The document discusses teaching fractions to students using hands-on activities with real world examples. It describes using rectangles and polygons to demonstrate fractions and cutting shapes into equivalent parts. Students compare the size of shapes that have been folded or cut into halves and quarters. Other suggested hands-on materials to represent fractions include unit blocks, rods, Legos, puzzles, liquid volumes, books, geoboards and food.

1. FRACTIONS The journal consists of the activity from simple to complex. From regular polygon we can show the basic of a fraction. Examples : rectangle, square and circle.
2. SAMPLE ASSESSMENT TASK 1.1 Fractions, Equivalent parts Students are given 3 rectangles with different colours. Let them compare whether all of the rectangles are in the same size.
3. Then, fold two of the rectangle so that both parts are the same. Cut one of the rectangle and compare. This activity shows the students how many rectangle do we have and are these rectangles in the same size. TRY THIS
4. 1/2 1/2 1/4 1/4 1/4 1/4 ACTIVITY : Explore the fraction models MATCH ME
5. Application : Realistic problem Mother rabbit has 4 child rabbits and 2 carrots in front of the children. She wants to give each of her children half of the carrots. Helps her to divide the carrots between the 4 children so each has half.
7. Other than that, we can also use variety of things around us as a sample to show the fractions, such as: 1) Unit blocks 2) Cuisinaire Rods 3) Lego 4) Puzzles 5) Liquid volume 6) Children’s books (using literature) 7) Geoboard 8) Food
