2. “The greater the numbers, the greater the bargaining power”
Chris Kechagias, Managing Director (Power Group Purchasing)
In recent years, group buying power has become a
concept that has been utilised across many industries. It is
no different in the deregulated energy market.
Group buying uses the simple concept of cross
aggregating large groups of individuals to achieve a 'buying
power' that they otherwise wouldn't be able to realise.
3. Who is Power Group
Purchasing?
Power Group Purchasing is providing the services that markets the purchasing scheme by firstly
collecting registrations of interest from the community, manages the tender process and then offers
the bulk-buy energy deals.
We essentially manage the program, broker the deal and process sales (contract sign-ups) on behalf
of the retailer. Their is no cost to customers for our service since we process the sale on behalf of
retailers and incur a small sales commission.
Background:
The bulk-buy initiative for residential energy markets was first initiated three years ago by myself
when hired as an independent energy consultant to help residents from Somers, located in Victoria's
Mornington Peninsula.
Having a procurement background and helping large companies with procurement management of
Indirect Categories, I turned my focus to apply these skills to help residential consumers to save on
electricity and gas (initially on a part time basis).
I have since turned this concept in a small business. My office and call centre is located at 366-370
Spencer Street, West Melbourne.

Commonly within Victoria, the contract termination fee is
generally $22 (Incl. GST) but it can vary depending on
your contract)
