Some people think that bullies tend to have low self esteem and do it to feel better about themselves. But it has been proven that they have the high self esteem and pick on the kids that have very little self esteem.
Bullies tend to lack the support from their parents or have few mentors. The victims usually have the very overprotective parents that shelter their children. The bullies make up many excuses to why they bully. Such as, the victims provoked it, or they didn’t mean to. It tends to be the weak versus the strong and not based on appearances. They say bullies don’t try to victimize the ones with the less fortunate clothing, or having glasses.
There are more ways of bullying besides verbal or physical. Most common now-a-days is on the internet. It’s harder for parents to take care of and and easy way for people to bully others and make it public. There is also silence such as, ignoring them or secluding them from activities.
Even if victims can overcome the bullying part, the effects afterwards can be much worse. Some switch schools to start all over. Some may stick to just themselves and won’t trust as easily. They can suffer from even worse low self esteem and even depression. They might choose to harm others or even harm themselves. Sometimes some even choose suicide.
Bullies on the other hand may be forced to switch schools by being expelled from old ones. Or they could just be suspended for a period of time. They can start to suffer from bad grades and have less friends once people start to see how they treat others. All of these aspects can affect their lifestyle further down the road.
Anybody can help bullies quit their ways, or help the victims get through the recovery of bullying. There are more and more support groups being created by day. They allow bullies and victims to talk out what they are feeling instead of acting out. Parents can play a huge part in decreasing the problem. Also the school can become involved. Teachers and principals should be more attentive to what is going on around them on school grounds.
These are just a few examples of organizations that have been created to stop the problem of bullying and to help those get through.
