2. Schizophrenia
• A disorder that affects a person's ability to
think, feel, and behave clearly.
• Characteristics include:
– distorted perception, thoughts and behaviors
– inappropriate emotions/ reactions
– confusion

4. The Media
• Diana Reid ( Jane Lynch) lives with schizophrenia, and lives in a
sanatorium.
• She is a genius who raised her son alone, and was committed when he
turned 18.
• Her son is an FBI profiler, and sometimes goes back to speak with his
mother about cases.
• She is extremely paranoid that the government is spying on her, and has
fears that her son (the closest person to her) is conspiring against her at
times.
• She is heavily medicated, and sometimes opts to not take her medication
for moments of mental clarity.

5. Connections:
• Diana’s son requests help on a case, and takes her
to the BAU.
• Her son asks her about the journals, and she
states very loudly ( as if she is talking into a mic)
that her journal is none of the
governments business
• Spencer has to reassure her that she is not in
harms way, but she remains very unsure and
fearful in the presence on the FBI members.

6. Connections
• Spencer:“ Did I know a
boy named Riley
Jenkins?”
• Diana:“Oh he was a
story you made up”
• **Riley Jenkins was
actually real, and Diana
distorted reality
• Spencer is in prison,
and when Diana goes to
visit him she believes
that she is locked up
and begins to panic.
