2. SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS CAN BE CAUSED BY
MANY THINGS, PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE BRAIN,
PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAUMA, BIRTH DEFECTS, GENETICS
MAY ALSO PLAY A PART.
SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS OR ANTEROGRADE
AMNESIA AFFECTS THE ABILITY OF ACQUISITION,
RETENTION, AND RECALL OF RECENTLY LEARNED
INFORMATION.
THE AREAS IN THE BRAIN THAT AFFECT SHORT TERM
MEMORY LOSS ARE THE TEMPORAL AND
HIPPOCAMPUS. THEY ARE PART OF THE LIMBIC
SYSTEM OF THE BRAIN. THE ARE PART OF WHAT'S
CALLED THE MEMORY CENTER OF THE BRAIN.
3. DORY HAS FLASHBACK MEMORIES OF HER PARENTS. THESE FLASHBACKS OR
FLASHBULB MEMORIES ARE A MEMORY THAT IS STORED IN LONG TERM
MEMORY IMMEDIATELY. THIS TYPE OF MEMORY IS USUALLY CAUSED BY AN
EMOTIONAL EVENT.
4. Dory: a blue tang fish that has short
term memory loss
Marlin: A clown fish that became
Dory’s friend in Finding nemo. A
story about a Dad trying to find his
son.
Nemo: The little clown fish that
Marlin and Dory are searching for in
Finding Nemo
FINDING DORY: A
STORY OF DORY THE
BLUE TANG FISH
TRYING TO FIND THE
FAMILY THAT SHE
LOST IN CHILDHOOD.
DORY NEEDS THE
HELP FROM MARLIN
AND NEMO BECAUSE
SHE SUFFERS FROM
SHORT TERM
MEMORY LOSS.
DORY, MARLIN, AND
NEMO SET OUT ON
AN ADVENTURE TO
FIND HER FAMILY.
5. Dory remembers that she has a family somewhere. This
is the story of her and her friends trying to find them.
Because dory has short term memory loss the journey
is difficult, but marlin and nemo and other friensds help
keep her on task and eventually she finds her mom and
dad.
6. Dory forgets Nemo's name
many times, this is because
the short-term memory is
affected, and she doesn’t
retain the information.
REPETITION OR SAYING SOMETHING OVER
AND OVER IS CALLED REHEARSAL THIS CAN
HELP THEM TO REMEMBER. HOWEVER, IF THE
CONCENTRATION IS BROKEN THE
INFORMATION IS FORGOTTEN.
7. CAN SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS BE GENETIC? THERE ARE NEW STUDIES THAT THEORIZE
THERE MAY BE A CONNECTION WITH A DOPAMINE RECEPTOR D2 OR DRD2. T HE LACK OF
DOPAMINE RECEPTORS CAN MAKE A PERSON MORE FORGETFUL. ALZHEIMER'S AS WELL
AS DEMENTIA ARE GENETIC. SO THIS STATEMENT MAY BE TRUE.
8. STUDIES SHOW THAT AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION TO A FAMILY
MEMBER OR CARETAKER CAN INCREASE THE FEELING OF WELL BEING,
THEREFORE THEY MAY HELP IN COPING WITH MEMORY LOSS
9. MEMORY LOSS CAN BE VERY SCARY TO ALL INVOLVED. KEEPING A
POSITIVE ATTITUDE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO IMPROVE THE LIFE OF
THOSE WITH SORT TERM MEMORY LOSS AND THEIR FAMILIES
10. IN THE END DORY IS REUNITED WITH HER PARENTS WITH THE HELP OF MA NY
OLD AND NEW FRIENDS ALONG THE WAY. FLASHBULB MEMORIES (A MEMORY
THAT HAS A STRONG EMOTIONAL TIE) OF HER PARENTS SETTING OUT SHEL LS
FOR HER TO FOLLOW HELPED HER FIND THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
11. Throughout this story the things I learned in class along with some research matched
the things that happened in the movie. You can see the sadness and frustration in all
involved. However Dory's insistence and perseverance lead her to find her parents.
Stories of short-term memory loss don’t always end happily. This is a devastating
diagnosis and can lead to many other psychological problems. In the case of
Alzheimer's and dementia there is no cure and no happy endings. Many
psychologists approved of the way Pixar presented short term memory loss in this
movie. I think that my project shows this.
