Selecting colleges for further study should not be approached with singleness of mind (I HAVE to go to Yale; it ’s been my life’s dream!) There are many other factors that should be considered before choosing universities which to apply. Reflection and investigation of your strengths and interests are key components that require planning, researching, and when possible, visiting campuses. Your journey to university starts today! We will spend time between today and the end of school assisting you in selecting appropriate universities and the fall processing. Your final list should be firm on the first day of school.
To help in this process we have a number of tools at your disposal. Uniquest is one of them. Uniquest is an assignment given to Juniors on the Pudong and Puxi campuses. It will help you gain a better understanding of who you are and direct you to resources that will guide your college research process.
You will need four tools to help in your research; some you have completed and others you have not. Naviance – you will need to log on to your account (if you don ’t remember your password, see Mrs. Beebe or your Counselor; Do What You Are, (within Naviance) a personality inventory that you should have completed but if not, complete it; The Career Interest Profiler (Naviance); and True Colors (you must log on to the True Colors website)
After you review the results of Do What You Are, Career Interest Profiler and True Colors, thoughtfully reflect on your strengths and interests, appropriate careers and university majors, and then again, on the kind of learning environment for your needs.
What do you want to gain from this assignment? Break it up into two or three sessions, reflect on what you have done, then return to complete. Hopefully you are pinpointing what is important for you in a learning evironment, possible majors, and later, a career.
Blue, Green, Gold, or Orange; Open web page. Quick, easy, don ’t’ think about answers too much, just answer the first thing that comes to your mind. It will give you descriptors for your personality. For example:
Open the webpage above. Log on to website and check out all the information. You can research universities by your personality type or country in which you are interested or your brightest color in True Colors. Choose one BIG college to research and then go to the Uniquest Survey in your Naviance account and complete the survey.
Reflect on the process. What have you learned about your personality? Possible careers? “Good fit” college? In what ways do these two universities look different? Which one is for you?!
You must evaluate two colleges and it does not matter in which country you will attend university.
There are four surveys and it is likely that you have already completed two of them –New Junior Interview Survey you must complete before scheduling your Junior Interviiw
This assignment is not to be taken lightly! The more thoughtful you are the better is helps us to help you.
These and more are listed in your packet. Check them out! Make this interesting and fun rather than something else you have to do. There are many different types of universities and they are there for you to discover!
You and your parents must complete all surveys before you can schedule an appointment. The sooner you meet your counselor the sooner you can plan, research, and write drafts of essays and applications. After May 17, counselors will be involved in China Alive, Awards Day, graduation, follow-up scheduling, and SAT! No more interviews can be scheduled after this date so plan accordingly.
After you schedule your Junior Interview appointment with Mrs. Beebe, your parents will receive a notification of the appointment. If you need to reschedule your appointment for a later date remember: time is precious as the year ends! In other words, don’t reschedule appointments.
