The Lisbon Treaty entered into force on 1
December 2009. The Treaty provides the
EU with modern institutions and
improves its working methods in order to
deal effectively with the challenges of
today's world. In a rapidly changing
world, the Europeans look to the EU to
address issues such as
globalization, climate
change, demographic change, and
energy security. The Treaty of Lisbon
reinforces democracy in the EU and
improve their ability to defend everyday
interests of its citizens.

A more democratic and transparent Europe: the European Parliament and
national parliaments have greater prominence, there are more opportunities
for citizens to make their voices heard and it is easier to know how to divide
tasks between the Union and the countries miembros.Una Europe more

instruments available to European foreign policy when developing and
adopting new policies. The Treaty of Lisbon, Europe is able to communicate
more clearly with its partners worldwide. They bring into play all
economic, humanitarian, political and diplomatic strengths to promote
European interests and values worldwide, while respecting the interests of the
Member States in the framework of external relations.
