4. To honor and continue to defend the Freedom of the Press,
Globe Telecom launched the Globe Media Excellence Awards
(GMEA) in 2012 in the cities of Cebu and Davao.
To celebrate the awards’ fourth year in 2015, it expanded its
coverage to other key cities in Visayas and Mindanao.
Since its commencement, GMEA has been recognizing
journalists, broadcasters, bloggers and social media advocates
in Visayas and Mindanao who have shown excellence in their
craft, commitment to their profession, and have made
positive impact to the society.
7. Now on its sixth year, GMEA 2017 aims to continue to be the
best venue for Visayas and Mindanao media to be recognized as
among the best in the Philippines while also pursuing
sustainable development as part of Globe Telecom’s
commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development
Goals.

All entries shall touch on any or a combination of the following
focus areas
Sustainability Focus Areas
10. There will be no separate categories or distinction for
journalists writing for Bisaya, Hiligaynon, Chavacano-
language dailies.
The same standards of excellence shall be applied for all
contenders for an award whether their works are done in
English, Filipino, Bisaya, Hiligaynon or Chavacano.
Language Challenge
11. Reporter of the Year for Print
Recognition shall be given to the print reporter with the best article touching
any of the sustainability focus areas.
Columnist of the Year for Print
Recognition shall be given to the columnist with the best write-up that
highlights issues on the identified sustainability focus areas.
Award Categories
12. Photojournalist of the Year for Print
Recognition shall be given to the photojournalist with the best published
photograph material on the identified sustainability focus areas.
Explanatory/Investigative Story of the Year for
Print
Recognition shall be given to the explanatory/investigative story that best
enlightens issues of public importance to the readers, and shows
enterprise and excellence in data gathering, documentation, storytelling,
and presentation.

13. Reporter of the Year for Radio
Recognition shall be given to the radio reporter with the best report on the
identified sustainability focus areas.
Public Affairs Story of the Year for Radio
Recognition shall be given to the best station-produced public affairs story
that best captures issues of public importance, promotes problem-solving,
and shows fairness and excellence in data-gathering, storytelling, and
presentation of ideas.

Recognition shall be given to television reporter with the best report on the
identified sustainability focus areas.
Explanatory/Investigative Story of the Year for
Television
Recognition shall be given to the explanatory/investigative story that best
enlightens issues of public importance to the viewers and shows enterprise
and excellence in data gathering, documentation, storytelling, presentation,
and viewer involvement.

15. Blogger of the Year
Recognition shall be given to the blogger with the best blog post on the
identified sustainability focus areas.
Social Media Advocate of the Year
Recognition shall be given to the social media influencer group, entity or
individual with the most influential advocacy post on the identified
sustainability focus areas.

16. Social Media Campaign of the Year
Recognition shall be given to the social media campaign that best
promotes call-to-action and problem solving on socially relevant issues on
the identified sustainability focus areas.
Reporter of the Year for Online News Portal
Recognition shall be given to the reporter for online news portal with the
best article touching any of the sustainability focus areas.

17. Entrants must be working with print, broadcast or online
news outlets, or must have active blogs or social media
accounts for at least a year during the search period.

Qualifications and Requirements
18. Entries published in national newspapers are only accepted
if they are about the respective area/region.
Entrants are not allowed to submit the same entry to
different categories.
Entrants writing/reporting in local languages are not
required to have English translations of their works.
Attachments for proof of social impact are optional.

23. Contenders must fill out all the required items in the entry
form. He/she must send the accomplished entry form
together with a scanned copy (either in PDF or JPEG) of
his/her ID, a high resolution photo of oneself, and his/her
entries and the respective requirements to
gmea@globe.com.ph. The subject of the email must be:
GMEA (Category).
Failure to submit all of the requirements would result
to disqualification.
25. There will be two sets of screening committees:
(1) traditional media
print and broadcast
(2) digital media
blog, social media, and online news portal
Screening Committee
26. Traditional Media
1) The screening committee for traditional media shall be in-charge of
screening entries for print and broadcast categories.
2) There shall be a screening committee for each of the identified
areas – Cebu, Bacolod, Ilolo, CDO, General Santos, Davao,
Zamboanga. The said screening committees shall be assigned to
rate the entries of their respective areas.
3) Each screening committee shall comprise of three (3) professionals
from the academe.
27. Digital Media
1) The screening committee for digital media shall be in-charge of
screening the blog, social media, and online news portal
categories.
2) There will be one (1) screening committee each for Visayas and
Mindanao. The said screening committees are designated to rate
the entries of their respective regions.
3) Each screening committee shall be comprised of five (5)
members from the Globe Digital Team.
28. Pre-deliberation
Each member of the screening committee shall be provided with
copies of the entries for screening. The entries are to be rated
using the criteria provided.
Each member is required to choose at most three (3) entries
per category per area for deliberation. For each of the identified
areas, there shall be a maximum of nine (9) entries per
category for deliberation.
29. Deliberation
After pre-deliberation, the screening committee per area shall
gather to deliberate their individually chosen entries.
During the deliberation, each member shall present and discuss
his/her chosen entries. The scores of the said entries shall be
back to zero. The screening committee en banc shall then
decide the top three (3) entries per category per area to be
endorsed for judging.
30. There shall be two panels of judges for Visayas and another
two for Mindanao.
The first panel shall be in-charge of judging the print and
broadcast nominees. Each panel per region shall comprise of
five (5) members coming from the following sectors:
government, NGO, business, IT, academe and church.

31. The second panel of judges shall be in-charge of judging the
digital nominees. Each panel per region shall comprise of
three (3) digital and technology experts handpicked by Globe
Telecom.

32. Judging Process
Each member of the panel shall be provided with
copies of the nominated entries for judging. The
judges individually shall rate the nominees using the
criteria provided.
The entry with the highest rating per category shall
be declared the winner.
