INTRODUCTION
The fast changing scenario of business and world economic structure demands deeper insight into
the quality management practices for global excellence. To survive in this exciting and
challenging new business world one needs to adopt quality management strategies that incorporate
the best global practices. As decision makers become more quality conscious, questions are raised
about which management practices should be emphasized for excellence. There is a need to focus
on both core quality management practices and on the infrastructure that creates an environment
supportive of their use. Using quality management practices with required infrastructure makes it
possible for establishing and sustaining a competitive advantage. Plethora of quality management
practices like: top management commitment and support, organization for quality, employee
training, employee participation, supplier quality management, customer focus, continuous
support, improvement of quality system, information and analysis, statistical quality techniques
use, etc. have been described but many of these practices are not established as distinct generic
practices at global level.
The Ninth International Conference on “Quality Management Practices for Global Excellence”
invites empirical, conceptual research papers and case studies from academicians, professionals,
consultants, practitioners, scholars and students related to the theme and sub themes of the
conference. The selected papers of the registered delegates out of those accepted for presentation
in the conference will be published in the form of a book, which will be released during the

largest by purchasing power parity (PPP). Following market-based economic reforms in 1991, India
became one of the fastest-growing major economies; it is considered a newly industrialized country.
A multi lingual, multi ethnic society of India is home to a diversity of wild life and variety of
protected habitats.
ABOUT INDORE
Indore is the largest city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It serves as the headquarters of both
Indore District and Indore Division. A central power city, Indore exerts a significant impact upon
commerce, finance, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, and entertainment and has
been described as the commercial capital of the state. It boasts of well developed industrial areas like
Dewas and Pithampur where major industrial houses have production facilities. Indore is home to the
Madhya Pradesh Stock Exchange, India's third oldest stock exchange. Indore's real estate market is
among the most expensive in the state. Numerous Schools, Colleges, and universities including
Engineering and Management Institutions are located in Indore, including IIM Indore and IIT Indore.
Soon Indore will be the IT hub of central India. Companies like TCS and Infosys will setup their new
ventures at Super Corridor. Super Corridor is new industrial area of Indore which is developed by
M.P. Government for IT and Medical Hub. Indore was ruled by the Holkars from 1728, when the
region was granted to them by Bajirao Peshwa. In the beginning of the Holkar reign Maheshwar town
close to Indore, famous for its sarees, was the capital. In 1818, the capital was shifted to Indore by
Rani Ahilyabai, daughter-in-law of Malhar Rao Holkar. The Holkars contributed significantly to the
development of Indore. The soil of Malwa has nurtured many illustrious sons and daughters,
prominent among whom are Dagar Brothers, M. F. Hussain, Lata Mangeshkar, Guru Deolalikar,
Vishnu Chinchalkar, Baba Dike, Col. C. K. Naidu, Capt. Mushtaq Ali, Chandu Sarvate and many
others.
Connectivity to Indore - Indore is well-connected by road, rail and air routes. There are direct train
connections linking the city with Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Nagpur, Jaipur, Udaipur,
Hyderabad, Cochin, Chennai and several other cities. The Agra-Mumbai Road (National Highway 3)
passes through Indore. Indore is served by the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar International Airport, about
8 km from the city. This airport has also new state-of-art terminal for national and international
flights. It is the busiest airport in the states of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and also serves as a
hub for international cargo. The airport has been operating services by Air India, Jet Airways
Konnect, Jet Airways, Jet Lite, IndiGo, SpiceJet connecting Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal,
Chandigarh, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur,
Patna, Pune, Raipur, Srinagar and Visakhapatnam. Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is located
about 180 kms. to the east of Indore, and is a junction for trains bound for North, East and West.
Indore is well connected to Bhopal with buses leaving for Indore every 30 minutes.
Climate – Indore has a borderline humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cwa)
and tropical savanna climate (Aw). Three distinct seasons are observed: summer, monsoon and
winter. The nights of Malwa are termed as 'Shab-E-Malwa'. Indore enjoys a moderate rainfall. Rains
strike Indore around the third week of June and continue well into September. In the month of
January, Average high temperature is 25.5o
C, Average low temperature is 4.2o
C.
Places of Interest in and around Indore - Interesting examples of Holkar architecture, such as
Rajwada and Lalbagh Palace are found in Indore. There are places of religious significance like
Sheesh Mahal, a Jain temple, Bijasan Mandir, Harsiddhi and others. Ujjain and Omkareshwar are
important religious centers located within a radius of 100 kms of Indore, two of the twelve
Jyotirlingas are located in these centers. The reigning deities are Mahakaleshwar and Omkareshwar
respectively. Maheshwar, the original capital of Holkars and Mandu, the once thriving socio cultural
centre, which was founded by the Nawab of Malwa are located nearby. Mandu is known for the
romantic legend of Baz Bahadur and Rani Rupmati. The ruins are a mute testimony to these two great
lovers and patrons of music and art.
