The thought of money being the source of happiness is quite interesting. It is a fact that we need
money to survive in this expensive economy, and without it we might tend to struggle. Money gives
us the opportunity to buy clothes, food, shelter, and many other necessities of life. But does money
truly bring happiness? Some may argue that money can make you happy and others will argue that it
doesn't.
Why do some believe that money is the source of happiness? I asked this question to a fellow
colleague and she responded with a personal experience that she faces at home. She said that life at

Clearly, having money has not resulted in true happiness for her.
One main reason that money is not the source of happiness is man's inborn flaw of greed. As
humans, we always want more. We may say, "if only I made $100,000.00 a year", and when we
achieve that goal, we are no longer satisfied and our desire goes up. There is never enough. The
world also defines our success buy what we have materially and financially. Many spend much of
their time in life trying to "keep up with the Jones", so to speak. And by doing so, they often find
themselves stressed out and unhappy because they are trying to impress people they don't like, with
money they don't have, on things they really don't need.
Others believe that if they had more money, they could spend more time with their family or do
things they really want to do. Studies show, however, that those who take on more responsibility or
work to earn more money, actually have less time for family, relaxation and recreation.

In modern American society, money is everything. In the United States, the most powerful people
are often the wealthiest. This is shown every four years when a presidential election occurs. In the
last three presidential elections, the candidate who spent the most money campaigning won the

every aspect of a United States' citizen's life. This idea is first shown in the writings of Benjamin

It is truly undeniable that in this science and technology millennium, we can hardly live without
money. Even buying something small such as sweet will cost you some money. However, this

Although he was "richer than a king," he was not happy. He is isolated because the townspeople
look at him, they wished they were just like him, and thought that he was perfect. If he had any
close friends, people would have known that he was not perfect. He must have felt like statue on a
pedestal. It may have become too difficult to maintain appearances and the weight of being held to
that standard and that might be what caused him to commit suicide. The poor people are admittedly
unhappy, but Richard Cory cannot show his unhappiness. It is like the expectations of the
townspeople are stifling for Richard Cory.
In today's world, sadness and isolation might be the reasons for the suicides of seemingly successful
celebrities. Celebrities are like Richard Cory in our modern time because we all "look up" to
celebrities, and they live a life of glitz and glamour.

What is the necessity of money in life? Does it truly bring us happiness? How much do I want or
need the comforts of material objects in my life? There is a famous song from Chris Janson that
does a pretty good job of summing it up. Chris says "Money can 't buy happiness, but it can buy me
a boat." I would agree with this! I like to believe that I am a family man. Families are an essence of

Money Is Not the Answer Today, the world constantly revolves around money. The endless cycle of
working for money, saving money, and spending money has become an almost mandatory aspect of
life. One can hardly turn a corner these days without seeing an advertisement endorsing the purchase
of a particular item. These are signs that greed has become more and more present in contemporary
society. It is commonly observed that the more money someone possesses, the more they want to
obtain. They tend to become greedier and greedier, until they reach an ultimate point where there is
complete disregard for others in their pursuit a solution to their problems through wealth. Dickens
saw this trend very clearly, and manipulated different characters in Great Expectations, such as Joe
and Miss Havisham, to show the theme that money is not what defines a person, but rather, true
inner wealth is calculated by a person's actions and relationship to others. Dickens uses the
character of Joe to express the theme of true worth. It is seen repeatedly that Joe has a hugely
caring attitude towards others, no matter who they are or what they do. Joe embodies the idea of
true inner value in his actions and relationships to others. This occurs before Pip has received his

Even if I would have asked she would have said no. This is just one of many examples of how
money has had a negative effect on my life.
I watched my mother work two jobs to support three children. She sacrificed for us and I love her
for that. She was in neutral for most of her life, struggling to make the bills and rent. This friction
rubbed off on us and her friends in a negative way. I can't help to think how life would have been
