To start off, some similarities found between the messages of the books is that they are real world
problems that are happening currently. Margaret's message was that the world had fallen into a

Dynamic characters are characters that are found in almost every book, and are characters that
change throughout the story. In Among the Hidden by Margaret Peterson Haddix, Luke Garner
is a third child, in a country where third children are illegal. In the beginning, Luke is not able to
go outside anymore due to the woods being clear, and new houses being built. He is not able to

a small category of people. At first, they weren't as successful, but over time they became larger.
Without that one idea and a group of people, the laws would not have been modified. In "Among
the Hidden" Jen had the drive to alter the rules. She had risked everything in order to get equality.
She did the correct thing by pursuing the rally because her issue would not have been shown, she
would not have been an inspiration, and even though it didn't turn out well she fought for what

illegal third child that must hide from the population police. The family devoted their life to hiding
him, but recently a new housing development bought the adjoining land and they will be knocking
down all of the trees surrounding Luke and his family's' farm. Going forward Luke will not be

Among The Hidden Part 1: Among the Hidden is about a boy named Luke. He is what you would
call a shadow child. Lukes mom was NOT supposed to have more than two kids because of
government rules. She already has had two boys. Luke was a mistake, he has never had a
birthday. Has never had to go to schools or make any friends. There was no one like him... or so
he thought. One day he was home alone and he snuck outside. He noticed large mansions that
were being built so more people could move next door. This meant that luke could probably never

Something that I really liked was when luke felt all alone and one day he was just sitting in his
room and seen someone and they became the best of friends. Another part of the booked I thought
was nice was the relationship between Jen and Luke, they didn't know about it at first, but then
their friendship grew stronger and stronger. Something else I liked was how they had to hide
away from everyone because of the population police. How he had to survive without any light,
sneaking outside and being stuck inside without having a real life. It was very interesting.
Although, there was something I didn't like. I didn't really like how sometimes in the book there
was something I thought was interesting and it didn't really last long enough or didn't give much
detail. For example, when Luke found out that Jen could do things he couldn't . The author didn't
really explain it very much. But, other than those types of things, I thought that it was a really
good book and I would recommend it to lower level readers and or in the middle type of readers.

In the book Among the Hidden I was able to Visualize Luke running into the house because the
woods were coming down. I visualized Luke running around the backyard and playing by the
woods. I saw him running in the grass and taking in all the smells of summer like flowers and
fresh cut grass. I also visualized Luke sitting at the dinner table questioning his parents about why
he couldn't go outside. Luke was arguing that it wasn't right and I could see him getting frustrated.
