2. OBJECTIVES
Imagine a warm, inviting, comfortable learning space!
Imagine a place where you are able to savour, appreciate
& explore ideas!
Imagine a place where your opinion matters, your
contributions are values & your efforts are recognised!
Imagine a connectedness & withitness which you are
proud to be part of!
Imagine a place where you are excited to be & feel you
belong!
This is the Learning Environment I envisage for my
classroom.
3. OBJECTIVES
An ideal classroom is one where….
• the students & teacher are motivated and maximum learning
Opportunities are created
• The socio-cultural aspect of the learner‟s world is
acknowledged, valued & respected
• The teacher is approachable & interested in the students
A positive classroom Environment prevents the need for
corrective strategies
BRING THE PASSION
My vision for an ideal classroom….I will ensure I take my
Passion for teaching into my classroom
4. OBJECTIVES
„KNOW THE CHILD BEFORE YOU TRY TO TEACH IT‟
This idea has links to Lev Vygotsky’s Social
Constructivism theory that all cognitive functions
originate in social contexts & accordingly any new
learning takes place within that context.
I would focus on building relationships of trust with my
students. I would follow the protocol that is responsive to
their Identity .Further, I would endeavour to build a strong
learning community by including whanau and the school
community.
5. OBJECTIVES
GOOD CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Effective classroom Management is having good control of the
class.
Good teaching is both Intrinsic as well as Extrinsic.
Through my practice I will cater for both Intrinsic
validation as well as Extrinsic rewards.
In order to build cognitive structures in my learners I
will use tools such as Reflective learning, teamwork
skills. problem solving & peer interaction.
6. OBJECTIVES
BE LIKE THE FROG…BRING THE KNOWLEDGE
As a classroom teacher I will ensure that I had thorough
Subject knowledge. I would build engaging lessons through
sound planning which when unpacked would mean
breaking down lessons to smallest components to enable
Students to engage in learning. I would includes games &
Competititions to retain their interest.
Prerequisites for Effective Pedagogy are thorough
Subject knowledge, Good Planning & cogent
Teaching Practice.
7. OBJECTIVES
TIPS FOR CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Brophy‟s first Principle places the responsibility of
Classroom Management squarely on the Teacher‟s
shoulders.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT TIPS
Tip 1- Set up Routines
Tip 2- Set up Clear Rules in collaboration with learners
Tip 3- Use of classroom spaces effectively
Tip 3- Use class wide strategies like positive narration
Tip 4- Use of verbal & non-verbal cues
Tip 5- Use physical proximity to ward off disruptions
Tip 5- Positive reinforcement system established
Tip 6- Fair & transparent Disciplinary system
8. OBJECTIVES
CORRECTIVE STRATEGIES
Classroom Corrective strategies
A teacher should have fair strategies in place based on clear
Expectations.
School Wide Corrective Strategies
Corrective strategies on a school wide basis should be
Implemented in a manner that leaves the child with
an opportunity to recognise &change their behaviour.
9. OBJECTIVES
“WE KNOW OUR CHILDREN, WE WORK WITH THEM AS
SITUATIONS ARISE. THAT‟S HOW WE ROLL!”
Sharron Adams (AP-Te Akau Ki Papamoa)
A school Management System which believes in
forming relationships with learners. The learners,
School & whanau have built a relationship of trust &
Dialogue. Everyone is made aware of the consequences
if discipline is breached.
Yet, the child is always treated with respect asked to think
about doing the same when they return to the classroom.
This kind of School wide strategy has better long term
Benefits. It sets a stage for Life-long learning…Brophy‟s
second Principle is clearly evident here.
10. OBJECTIVES
AKO,MAANAKITANGA ……MANA
Although Corrective strategies like stand downs are a
Necessary evil it becomes impossible for the child to
Get out of this cycle of failure.
Schools work hard to help these students as this is
the only opportunity we have for society to change the
Lives of these young people- through Acceptance &
Education. In-Loco Parentis at it‟s most sublime!
Schools can make a difference in changing children‟s
Lives & futures.
