Forbes for consecutive three years, in 2012, 2013, and 2014. He is known
for his creative marketing strategies. In the Indian market where large
sales volumes of books are rare, XY’s books have been enormously

for the success of his novels. He has stated, "It’s a fallacy to think that a
good book sells itself. I can give you a long list of books that I think should

5. One of the lesser known facts of “X” is that he was an avid
student of anatomy who at the age of 17, began dissecting

in neuroanatomy believe that “X” did leave some anatomical

The runic letters happened to look similar to the insignia of the
Nazi SS, a symbol that is outlawed in Germany by the section
86a of the German criminal code. Since 1979 most of the band's
album covers and merchandise in Germany have used an
alternate logo, in which the letters "SS" look like the letters "ZZ"
backwards. This logo is also used in Austria, Switzerland,
Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, and Israel to avoid controversy.

10. In 2007, X and his brother Hank began a video blog project
called Brotherhood 2.0 which ran from January 1 to December 31 of that
year. The two agreed that they would forgo all text-based communication
with each other for the duration of the project, instead maintaining their
relationship by exchanging video blogs, each submitting one to the other
on each alternate weekday. These videos were uploaded to a YouTube
channel called "vlogbrothers" (as well as the brothers' own website) where

11. Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of
color are applied in patterns to form an image. “XY” and Paul
Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism.
The term "Pointillism" was first coined by art critics in the late 1880s to
ridicule the works of these artists, and is now used without its earlier
mocking connotation. The movement “XY” began with this technique is
known as Neo-Impressionism. The Divisionists, too, used a similar
technique of patterns to form images, though with larger cube-like
brushstrokes.

13. This period of painting represents an important epoch in the life and
work of the “XY” and had a great impact on the development of modern art.

depicts themes of poverty, loneliness, and despair in somber tones of
daunting blues. But on the contrary this period from 1904-06 represents
more pleasant themes of clowns, carnival performers, depicted in cheerful

and this has been suggested as one of the possible reasons he changed

14. Khao Phing Kan is an island in Thailand, in Phang Nga Bay northeast
of Phuket. About 40 metres (130 ft) from the shores of Khao Phing Kan lies
a 20-metre (66 ft) tall islet called Ko Tapu. Khao Phing Kan means "hills
leaning against each other" in Thai, reflecting the connected nature of the
islands, and Ko Tapu can be literally translated as "nail" or "spike" island,
reflecting its shape. Before 1974, the island was a rarely visited indigenous
area. However, it became a very popular tourist spot after it was chosen as
one of the locations for the 1974 blockbluster movie and since then it is

painted this painting for the 14th Vienna Secessionist exhibition in
celebration of the composer, and featured a monumental polychrome

painting was preserved, although it did not go on display again until
1986. The painting is on permanent display in the Vienna Secession

4. Night Mail is a 1936 documentary film about a London, Midland and
Scottish Railway (LMS) mail train from London to Scotland, produced by the
GPO Film Unit. A poem by ‘X’ was written for it, used in the closing few
minutes, as was music by Benjamin Britten. As recited in the film, the
poem's rhythm imitates the train's wheels as they clatter over track sections,
beginning slowly but picking up speed so that by the time of the penultimate
verse the narrator is at a breathless pace. As the train slows toward its
destination the final verse is more sedate. The opening lines are "This is the
Night Mail crossing the border / Bringing the cheque and the postal order".

Lisa by adorning a cheap reproduction of the
painting with a mustache and goatee. To this he
added the inscription L.H.O.O.Q., a phonetic
game which, when read out loud in French
quickly sounds like "Elle a chaud au cul". This
can be translated as "She has a hot ass",
implying that the woman in the painting is in a
state of sexual excitement and availability. It
may also have been intended as a Freudian
joke, referring to Leonardo da Vinci's alleged
homosexuality. ‘X’ gave a "loose" translation of
L.H.O.O.Q. as "there is fire down below" in a
late interview with Arturo Schwarz. According
to Rhonda Roland Shearer, the apparent Mona
Lisa reproduction is in fact a copy modeled
partly on ‘X’'s own face.

Comics. They have secretly existed since Colonial times in Gotham City. The
Court kidnaps child performers from the circus, only to train and transform
them into their assassins, known as Talons. They are first mentioned
in Batman #1 (2011), and make their first full appearance in Batman #5 as
part of The New 52.

on CBS. It followed the life of an
imaginary painting by ‘X’ as it passes
through the hands of various people.
The film was based on Girl In Hyacinth
Blue, a novel by author Susan Vreeland,
and starred Glenn Close and Ellen
Burstyn. The imaginary painting 'Girl in
Hyacinth Blue', the principal object in
this film, is painted exactly in ‘X’'s
painting technique by the American
master painter Jonathan Janson, author
and webmaster of the world-known
website about the life and work of ‘X’,
"Essential ‘X’”.

12. She was an American artist, and the girlfriend of ‘X’ from 1961 to 1964.
‘X’ later acknowledged her strong influence on his music and art during that
period. In her book, A ___________' Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village
in the Sixties, she described her time with ‘X’ and other figures in the folk
music and bohemian scene in Greenwich Village, New York. She discussed
her upbringing as a "red diaper" baby—a child of radicals during
the McCarthy Era. As an artist, she specialized in artists' books and taught

A certain picture was taken in February 1963 by photographer Don
Hunstein. ‘X’ was 21, she 19. The location is Greenwich Village, on Jones
Street, near West 4th and Bleecker.
"I didn't do the shoot with a record cover in mind," Hunstein recalled. "I
brought only one roll of color film with me, and most of the pictures on it
were not good.“

13. "Kubla Khan; or, A Vision in a Dream: A Fragment“ is a poem written by
‘X’, completed in 1797 and published in 1816. According to ‘X’'s Preface to
"Kubla Khan", the poem was composed one night after he experienced
an opium-influenced dream after reading a work describing Xanadu, the
summer palace of the Mongol ruler and Emperor of China Kublai Khan.
Upon waking, he set about writing lines of poetry that came to him from the
dream until he was interrupted by a person from Porlock. The poem could
not be completed according to its original 200–300 line plan as the
interruption caused him to forget the lines. He left it unpublished and kept it
for private readings for his friends until 1816 when, at the prompting
of Lord Byron, it was published.

of the 1940s. The movement was stimulated by a modernist magazine of the same
name published by the surrealist poet Max Harris, who founded the magazine in
1940, at the age of 18.
It was first published in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. The title is derived
from a phrase in Harris' poem "Mithridatum of Despair": "as drunks, the _____
________ of the night", and its use as a magazine title was suggested to Harris
