1. ___ _________ is a painting by Anglo-Swiss artist Henry Fuseli.
Since its creation, it has remained Fuseli’s best known work. The
work was likely inspired by the walking dreams experienced by
Fuseli and his contemporaries, who found that these experiences
related to folkloric beliefs like the Germanic tales about demons
and witches that possessed people who slept alone. Even it is said
that the scene of Elizabeth’s death in Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein
was modeled after Fuseli’s painting.

2. “XY” was born in San Francisco, California, to Russian-
Jewish parents Frederick and Eva ______. The younger of two
children, he grew up in the neighborhood of Western
Addition in San Francisco, and later in Portland, Oregon, where
he attended Lincoln High School. Growing up, he had a
fondness for voices and dialect, which he began voicing at the
age of ten. He claimed when he was sixteen, he changed the
spelling from ______ to ______ because a teacher told him that
he would amount to nothing and be like his name, a ______.

4. XY is an Indian writer who was ranked the top 100 celebrities of India by
Forbes for consecutive three years, in 2012, 2013, and 2014. He is known
for his creative marketing strategies. In the Indian market where large
sales volumes of books are rare, XY’s books have been enormously
successful. His marketing skills and strategies have been widely credited
for the success of his novels. He has stated, "It’s a fallacy to think that a
good book sells itself. I can give you a long list of books that I think should
have been bestsellers but nobody’s ever heard of them. My management
background along with marketing experience helped me devise effective
strategies for promoting my book”. Weeks before his first novel hit the
bookshops, XY printed sample copies of the first chapter and persuaded
bookshops and chains to give them away free to anyone who approached
the cash counter, creating a buzz. For promotion of his second book, XY
created video trailers of film production quality, complete with visual effects
and screened them at multiplexes before movies such as the Shahrukh
Khan starrer Ra.One.

5. One of the lesser known facts of “X” is that he was an avid
student of anatomy who at the age of 17, began dissecting
corpses from the church graveyard. A pair of American experts
in neuroanatomy believe that “X” did leave some anatomical
illustrations behind in one of his most famous works. While
some might dismiss this as coincidence, but even the complex
components within the brain including cerebellum, optic chiasm,
pituitary gland, etc can be found in the picture.

6. This song by Iron Butterfly is considered significant in rock
history because, together with music by Blue Cheer, Jimi
Hendrix, Steppenwolf and High Tide, it marks the early transition
from psychedelic music into heavy metal. In 2009, it was named
the 24th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1. It is also
often regarded as an influence on heavy metal music and being
one of the firsts of the genre.A commonly related story says that
the song's title was originally "In the Garden of Eden", but at one
point in the course of rehearsing and recording, singer Doug
Ingle got drunk and slurred the words, creating
the mondegreen that stuck as the title.

7. 1Q84 is a novel by Haruki Murakami, first
published in three volumes in Japan in
2009–10. The novel quickly became a
sensation, with its first printing selling out the
day it was released, and reaching sales of
one million within a month. The English
language edition of all three volumes, with
the first two volumes translated by Jay
Rubin and the third by Philip Gabriel, was
released in North America and the United
Kingdom on October 25, 2011. An excerpt
from the novel, "Town of Cats", appeared in
the September 5, 2011 issue of The New
Yorker magazine. What is the title of the
novel a referrence to??
The title is a play on the
Japanese pronunciation of the
year 1984 and a reference
to George Orwell's Nineteen
Eighty-Four.
The letter Q and the Japanese
number 9 are homophones,
which are often used
in Japanese wordplay.
8. _____ ___ ______ is an American adult animated television
series created by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon for Adult Swim. The
series follows the misadventures of alcoholic scientist _____ and his easily
influenced grandson ______, who split their time between domestic family
life and interdimensional travel. The general formula of _____ ___
_______ consists of the juxtaposition of two conflicting scenarios: an
extremely selfish, alcoholic grandfather dragging his grandson across
space for intergalactic and/or interdimensional adventures, intercut with
domestic family drama. This has led the creator to describe the series as a
cross between The Simpsons and Futurama, balancing family life with
heavy science fiction. It has got an IMDb rating of 9.3 and has been
renewed for a third season in August 2015.

9. Frehley created this logo of the band Kiss. But
instead of this a logo with slight variation is used
in some countries like Germany, Israel, Austria,
Switzerland, Poland, Lithuania, Hungary etc. Why
is this logo used ??
The runic letters happened to look similar to the insignia of the
Nazi SS, a symbol that is outlawed in Germany by the section
86a of the German criminal code. Since 1979 most of the band's
album covers and merchandise in Germany have used an
alternate logo, in which the letters "SS" look like the letters "ZZ"
backwards. This logo is also used in Austria, Switzerland,
Poland, Lithuania, Hungary, and Israel to avoid controversy.
10. In 2007, X and his brother Hank began a video blog project
called Brotherhood 2.0 which ran from January 1 to December 31 of that
year. The two agreed that they would forgo all text-based communication
with each other for the duration of the project, instead maintaining their
relationship by exchanging video blogs, each submitting one to the other
on each alternate weekday. These videos were uploaded to a YouTube
channel called "vlogbrothers" (as well as the brothers' own website) where
they reached a wide audience. In what would have been the project's final
video, the brothers revealed that they would extend their video
correspondence indefinitely, and as of 2015 they have continued
exchanging their unique vlogs.

11. Pointillism is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of
color are applied in patterns to form an image. “XY” and Paul
Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism.
The term "Pointillism" was first coined by art critics in the late 1880s to
ridicule the works of these artists, and is now used without its earlier
mocking connotation. The movement “XY” began with this technique is
known as Neo-Impressionism. The Divisionists, too, used a similar
technique of patterns to form images, though with larger cube-like
brushstrokes.

13. This period of painting represents an important epoch in the life and
work of the “XY” and had a great impact on the development of modern art.
It began in 1904 at a time when “XY” settled in Montmartre at the Bateau-
Lavoir among bohemian poets and writer. His previous period
depicts themes of poverty, loneliness, and despair in somber tones of
daunting blues. But on the contrary this period from 1904-06 represents
more pleasant themes of clowns, carnival performers, depicted in cheerful
vivid hues of red, orange, pink and earth tones. It is said that “XY” was
happy in his relationship with Fernande Olivier whom he had met in 1904
and this has been suggested as one of the possible reasons he changed
his style of painting. His previous period was more spanish influenced
while this one is considered as French influnced. Enough hint in the
question just Gimme “XY” and the period that has been referred here !!

14. Khao Phing Kan is an island in Thailand, in Phang Nga Bay northeast
of Phuket. About 40 metres (130 ft) from the shores of Khao Phing Kan lies
a 20-metre (66 ft) tall islet called Ko Tapu. Khao Phing Kan means "hills
leaning against each other" in Thai, reflecting the connected nature of the
islands, and Ko Tapu can be literally translated as "nail" or "spike" island,
reflecting its shape. Before 1974, the island was a rarely visited indigenous
area. However, it became a very popular tourist spot after it was chosen as
one of the locations for the 1974 blockbluster movie and since then it is
known as the ______ _____ Island.

15. This is a painting by Austrian painter Gustav Klimt. In 1901, Klimt
painted this painting for the 14th Vienna Secessionist exhibition in
celebration of the composer, and featured a monumental polychrome
sculpture by Max Klinger. Meant for the exhibition only, the painting was
painted directly on the walls with light materials. After the exhibition the
painting was preserved, although it did not go on display again until
1986. The painting is on permanent display in the Vienna Secession
Building in a specially built, climate controlled basement room. Now the

in Dante's Inferno (Circle 2, Canto 5) who falls in love with her
husband Giovanni Malatesta's younger brother Paolo. Having fallen in
love while reading the story of Lancelot and Guinevere, the couple are

20. “XY” was born in Brazil and attended a Jesuit school. As a teenager, he
wanted to become a writer. Upon telling his mother this, she responded,
"My dear, your father is an engineer. He's a logical, reasonable man with a
very clear vision of the world. Do you actually know what it means to be a
writer?” At 17, he's introversion and opposition to following a traditional
path led to his parents committing him to a mental institution from which he
escaped three times before being released at the age of 20. He later
remarked that "It wasn't that they wanted to hurt me, but they didn't know
what to do... They did not do that to destroy me, they did that to save
me." But he finally got immense fame with his 1986 novel. The author has
sold 210 million copies worldwide (as for June 2015) and is the all-time
bestselling Portuguese language author.

4. Night Mail is a 1936 documentary film about a London, Midland and
Scottish Railway (LMS) mail train from London to Scotland, produced by the
GPO Film Unit. A poem by ‘X’ was written for it, used in the closing few
minutes, as was music by Benjamin Britten. As recited in the film, the
poem's rhythm imitates the train's wheels as they clatter over track sections,
beginning slowly but picking up speed so that by the time of the penultimate
verse the narrator is at a breathless pace. As the train slows toward its
destination the final verse is more sedate. The opening lines are "This is the
Night Mail crossing the border / Bringing the cheque and the postal order".

order to heat the hall, a barrel half-filled with kerosene was lit, a fairly
common practice at the time. During a performance, two men began to
fight, knocking over the burning barrel and sending burning fuel across the
floor. The hall burst into flames, and the building was evacuated. Once
outside, he realized that he had left his guitar inside so he went back into
the burning building to retrieve his beloved $30 Gibson guitar. Two men
died in the fire, and he learned the next day that they had been fighting
over a woman named ______. He subsequently named that first guitar
_______, as well as every guitar he has owned since, as a reminder
never again to do something as stupid as run into a burning building or

8. In 1919, ‘X’ made a parody of the Mona
Lisa by adorning a cheap reproduction of the
painting with a mustache and goatee. To this he
added the inscription L.H.O.O.Q., a phonetic
game which, when read out loud in French
quickly sounds like "Elle a chaud au cul". This
can be translated as "She has a hot ass",
implying that the woman in the painting is in a
state of sexual excitement and availability. It
may also have been intended as a Freudian
joke, referring to Leonardo da Vinci's alleged
homosexuality. ‘X’ gave a "loose" translation of
L.H.O.O.Q. as "there is fire down below" in a
late interview with Arturo Schwarz. According
to Rhonda Roland Shearer, the apparent Mona
Lisa reproduction is in fact a copy modeled
partly on ‘X’'s own face.

9. ‘X’ organized crime group and secret society in Batman and other DC
Comics. They have secretly existed since Colonial times in Gotham City. The
Court kidnaps child performers from the circus, only to train and transform
them into their assassins, known as Talons. They are first mentioned
in Batman #1 (2011), and make their first full appearance in Batman #5 as
part of The New 52.
A nursery rhyme describing them has been passed down through Gotham's
generations:
Beware the ‘X’, that watches all the time,
Ruling Gotham from a shadowed perch, behind granite and lime.
They watch you at your hearth, they watch you in your bed.
Speak not a whispered word about them, or they'll send the Talon for your

by ‘X’ in 1914 and was his own
reworking and re-imagining of part of
the tale of the Finnish saga Kalevala. It
will be published in the US by Houghton

It is about Kullervo, son of Kalervo and
is perhaps the darkest and most tragic

orphan boy with supernatural powers
and a tragic destiny.

11. Brush with Fate was a made-for-TV
film debuted on February 2, 2003,
on CBS. It followed the life of an
imaginary painting by ‘X’ as it passes
through the hands of various people.
The film was based on Girl In Hyacinth
Blue, a novel by author Susan Vreeland,
and starred Glenn Close and Ellen
Burstyn. The imaginary painting 'Girl in
Hyacinth Blue', the principal object in
this film, is painted exactly in ‘X’'s
painting technique by the American
master painter Jonathan Janson, author
and webmaster of the world-known
website about the life and work of ‘X’,
"Essential ‘X’”.

12. She was an American artist, and the girlfriend of ‘X’ from 1961 to 1964.
‘X’ later acknowledged her strong influence on his music and art during that
period. In her book, A ___________' Time: A Memoir of Greenwich Village
in the Sixties, she described her time with ‘X’ and other figures in the folk
music and bohemian scene in Greenwich Village, New York. She discussed
her upbringing as a "red diaper" baby—a child of radicals during
the McCarthy Era. As an artist, she specialized in artists' books and taught
at the Parsons School of Design in New York City.
A certain picture was taken in February 1963 by photographer Don
Hunstein. ‘X’ was 21, she 19. The location is Greenwich Village, on Jones
Street, near West 4th and Bleecker.
"I didn't do the shoot with a record cover in mind," Hunstein recalled. "I
brought only one roll of color film with me, and most of the pictures on it
were not good.“

13. "Kubla Khan; or, A Vision in a Dream: A Fragment“ is a poem written by
‘X’, completed in 1797 and published in 1816. According to ‘X’'s Preface to
"Kubla Khan", the poem was composed one night after he experienced
an opium-influenced dream after reading a work describing Xanadu, the
summer palace of the Mongol ruler and Emperor of China Kublai Khan.
Upon waking, he set about writing lines of poetry that came to him from the
dream until he was interrupted by a person from Porlock. The poem could
not be completed according to its original 200–300 line plan as the
interruption caused him to forget the lines. He left it unpublished and kept it
for private readings for his friends until 1816 when, at the prompting
of Lord Byron, it was published.

15. _____ ________ was an Australian literary and artistic avant-garde movement
of the 1940s. The movement was stimulated by a modernist magazine of the same
name published by the surrealist poet Max Harris, who founded the magazine in
1940, at the age of 18.
It was first published in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. The title is derived
from a phrase in Harris' poem "Mithridatum of Despair": "as drunks, the _____
________ of the night", and its use as a magazine title was suggested to Harris
by C. R. Jury. The magazine's main Adelaide rivals were the Jindyworobaks, a
nationalist and anti-modernist literary movement inspired by Indigenous
Australian culture and the Australian bush ballad tradition. The _____ ________
were early Australian exponents of surrealism and expressionism. This led James
McAuley and Harold Stewart during their time at the Directorate of Research and
Civil Affairs to create the group's most famous event, the Ern Malley hoax and the
subsequent trial for indecency.
Members of the painting group included John Perceval, Arthur Boyd, Sidney
Nolan, Danila Vassilieff, Albert Tucker and Joy Hester.

Mickey. Critic Alice Goldfarb Marquis writes that the artist recalled one of his
sons pointing to a comic book and challenging; "I bet you can't paint as good
as that". Another says that the painting resulted from an effort to prove his
abilities to both his son and his son's classmates who mocked his hard-to-
fathom abstracts. American painter Allan Kaprow once stated, in reference to
a Bazooka Double Bubble Gum wrapper, to him, "You can't teach color from
Cézanne, you can only teach it from something like this." He then showed him
one of his Donald Duck images.
He was inspired to draw the characters in the painting from this image in

22. This is the Indian novel that has been endorsed by VS Naipaul: "At
last - a new and brilliantly original novel from India," he said on the dust
jacket.. ‘Y’ is initially the story of a couple obsessed with each other and,
at least from the perspective of the male partner (who is also the
narrator), with sex. This male obsession with sex is sometimes effectively
channeled to narrative ends but it never really reaches the density of, say,
Nobokov's Lolita, partly because it sounds too much like the obsession of
Anglophone Indians from professional classes, an obsession that is
defined, even in its absence, by the paucity of ordinary sexual
opportunities available to that particular class in India. The "hard-ons" of
this class stand in a strange oedipal relationship to the "hand-outs" that
used to obsess their parents' generation. ‘X’'s debut novel, ‘Y’ (2006),
won Le Prix Mille Pages, it s (2010). ‘Y’ got ‘X’ nominated for the Bad
Sex Award in Britain.

X – Tarun Tejpal
Y – The Alchemy of Desire
23. ‘X’ was an American screenwriter and
novelist. As one of the Hollywood Ten, he
refused to testify before the House Un-
American Activities Committee(HUAC) in
1947 during the committee's investigation of
Communist influences in the motion picture
industry. ‘X’ won two Academy Awards
while blacklisted; one was originally given to
a front writer, and one was awarded to
"Robert Rich", ‘X’'s pseudonym.
A 2015 American biographical drama
film directed by Jay Roach and written
by John McNamara is based on him. The film
stars Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Louis
C.K., Elle Fanning, John Goodman, Michael
Stuhlbarg and Helen Mirren.
‘X’ ??
James Dalton Trumbo
24. This is a scene from American Pie`s first installment. The
song in the background refers to another film having almost
the same plot-line. The movie is pretty work-outable from the
song.
Name the movie!!
The Graduate
Thanks !!

In the Indian market where large sales volumes of books are rare, XY’s books have been enormously successful. His marketing skills and strategies have been widely credited for the success of his novels. He has stated, "It’s a fallacy to think that a good book sells itself. I can give you a long list of books that I think should have been bestsellers but nobody’s ever heard of them. My management background along with marketing experience helped me devise effective strategies for promoting my book”. Weeks before his first novel hit the bookshops, XY printed sample copies of the first chapter and persuaded bookshops and chains to give them away free to anyone who approached the cash counter, creating a buzz. For promotion of his second book, XY created video trailers of film production quality, complete with visual effects and screened them at multiplexes before movies such as the Shahrukh Khan starrer Ra.One.

  • 50. 13. This period of painting represents an important epoch in the life and work of the “XY” and had a great impact on the development of modern art. It began in 1904 at a time when “XY” settled in Montmartre at the Bateau- Lavoir among bohemian poets and writer. His previous period depicts themes of poverty, loneliness, and despair in somber tones of daunting blues. But on the contrary this period from 1904-06 represents more pleasant themes of clowns, carnival performers, depicted in cheerful vivid hues of red, orange, pink and earth tones. It is said that “XY” was happy in his relationship with Fernande Olivier whom he had met in 1904 and this has been suggested as one of the possible reasons he changed his style of painting. His previous period was more spanish influenced while this one is considered as French influnced. Enough hint in the question just Gimme “XY” and the period that has been referred here !!

To this he added the inscription L.H.O.O.Q., a phonetic game which, when read out loud in French quickly sounds like "Elle a chaud au cul". This can be translated as "She has a hot ass", implying that the woman in the painting is in a state of sexual excitement and availability. It may also have been intended as a Freudian joke, referring to Leonardo da Vinci's alleged homosexuality. ‘X’ gave a "loose" translation of L.H.O.O.Q. as "there is fire down below" in a late interview with Arturo Schwarz. • 158. 22. This is the Indian novel that has been endorsed by VS Naipaul: "At last - a new and brilliantly original novel from India," he said on the dust jacket.. ‘Y’ is initially the story of a couple obsessed with each other and, at least from the perspective of the male partner (who is also the narrator), with sex. This male obsession with sex is sometimes effectively channeled to narrative ends but it never really reaches the density of, say, Nobokov's Lolita, partly because it sounds too much like the obsession of Anglophone Indians from professional classes, an obsession that is defined, even in its absence, by the paucity of ordinary sexual opportunities available to that particular class in India. The "hard-ons" of this class stand in a strange oedipal relationship to the "hand-outs" that used to obsess their parents' generation. ‘X’'s debut novel, ‘Y’ (2006), won Le Prix Mille Pages, it s (2010). ‘Y’ got ‘X’ nominated for the Bad Sex Award in Britain. ‘X’ and ‘Y’ ??
