1. Tips / undocumented functions:
- At the top of the main-menu and every folder, the keys 1 to 9 are shortcuts to the icons 1-9
- A shortcut on the left menukey in standby-mode will take more time to open than a shortcut on
the right menukey. Reason: The left key is also used for the keylock so it shortly waits for
pressing the * button.
- While writing text press and hold "#" to switch between Alpha mode and Number mode. You
can also press a key long to insert its number.
- In standby-mode, press and hold 0 to launch your wap home page.
- If you have your keylock activated just press the on/off button to turn on your backlight to look
at the time when it's dark without having to unlock the keypad.
- To keep the backlight on, run Torch (freeware), press and hold the Menu button and go
somewhere else on the phone.
- To check your current firmware version simply type *#0000# in standby screen.
- To check your IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) type *#06# in standby screen.
- To check your Bluetooth device address type *#2820# in standby screen.
- Start up in Safe Mode (no 'auto start' apps will be running): Hold down the pencil key when you
turn on the phone and hold it on until you have to enter your PIN code.
- Format the phone memory by typing *#7370# in standby screen.
- In standby mode,

Your files in MMC are stored in multiple (disk) blocks.
So if you format using 16K block, the space used will be 16K eventhough your file is just 1K.
If you buy MMC, it is usually preformatted with 16K block. Therefore alot of space is wasted as
most installed program files are usually less than 2K.
You will need a card reader to do this:-
1. Connect card reader and copy all your files in the MMC to computer disk.
(Make sure you set the show all/hidden/os files to "on")
2. Do a format of the MMC using command line "format" and use the /A=size option.
Alternative, you can use the Disk Management in Adminstrative Tools to format.
Make sure you select FAT. For 256MB MMC, smallest block you can use is 4K, 128MB is 2K,
64Mb is 1K and 32MB is 512B.
(Note: You cannot use the phone "format MMC" to do this as the format just clear the allocation
table and does not change the block size)
3. Copy back all files to MMC.
Now you will find that you will have more space.

CHECK SIM-LOCK
Note - If you bought your Nokia on UK Vodafone or UK Cellnet you do not need to check this
because they both transmit on GSM900, and they don't lock the phones. However if you bought
your phone on UK Orange or UK One2one your phone may be blocked. The reason is that they
both transmitt on GSM1800. To make a call on GSM1800 you need what is known as a "Dual
band" phone. A dual band phone is able to transmit on both GSM900 and GSM1800, so they
lock the phones so you can't use it with any other network simcard. If you find that your phone is
locked you can try different software to unlock it. (we havn't found one that works yet), or you
can ask your service provider who will gladly exchange the 10 digit code for about £35.
This is how to check the status of the 4 different locks. Aslo don't try entering the wrong number,
because after 3 times it will block the phone for good.

If you short-circuit theleft middle and right pins on the bottom of the phone with all connections
touching each other, the Nokia software hangs! The profile "Headset" will be activated. Before
you do this just activate the "Automatic Answer" in the headset profile and set the ringing
volume to "Mute". Now you can use your phone for checking out what people are talking about
in a room. Just place it under a table in a room and call it. The phone receives the call without

Looks if the sim clock can be stopped. Sim clock stop is a kind of stand-by mode which will save
battery time. This code doesn't work with software version 4.59.

Change Alpha Tag
The alpha tag is the message that is displayed on your phone when in digital coverage. This is
normally transmitted by the network, but can be overidden to display a different tag. This is done
by creating a tag for a personal/residential zone in the phone, and setting this zone to have the
same settings as your normal carrier. So when the phone identifies the network system it
believes it is in the personal/residential zone and displays the tag you have programmed.
1) Enter programming mode of the phone by keying *3001#12345#
2) Find out the ID of your operator by entering the NAM1 menu. Note the Home System ID
setting. (16387 on Rogers AT&T in Calgary)
3) Scroll to and enter PSID/RSID lists (menu 7)
4) Select P/RSID 1

The settings for radar speed traps detector. Your Nokia cell phone can be programmed to pick
up radar speed traps, when programmed your cell phone picks up the radar and alerts you on

There is a hidden menu inside your Nokia phone. If you want to activate it, you'll have to re-
program some chips inside of your phone.
Check your software version. You can only continue if you have v4.33, v4.73 or v5.24.
Take apart the phone.
De-solder the EEPROM (ATMEL AT 24C64)
Read out the data with an EEPROM programmer and save it to a file (Backup)
If you have v.33 or v4.73, change the address "03B8" from "00" to "FF"
If you have v5.24 then change the address "0378" from "00" to "FF"
Write the new data to the EEPROM and solder it back to the phone
Power on your phone and you should have "Netmonitor" enabled.
The Network Monitor gives you the following information:
Carrier number, MS RX Level in DBM, Received signal quality, MS TX power level, C1 (Path
loss criterion, used for cell selection and reselection). The range is -99 to 99, RTL (Radio link
timeout), Timeslot, Indication of the transmitter status, Information on the Network parameters,

a general service which is designed for subscribers of a specific cell or topic. For example, a
subscriber to cell 050 in England will receive information on the GSM tower currently being used

Problems with sending files from 7650 to PC via BT

25. The following tip can be useful for people using Bluetooth hardware (cards, dongles) equipped
with Widcomm software (MSI, TDK etc).
If you cannot send files from your Nokia to PC, you may want to try the following tip:
Open your Windows registry in Registry editor: Menu Start -> Run -> Regedit
locate HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareWidcommBTConfigServic es0004 key
locate AcceptOther entry
change its value from 0 to 1
reboot your computer.

Game Hacking with Blizzard
Get the file called the 'BlizzardN-GAGE.SIS' from IRC get in #mediaplace on Efnet (note:
Downloading *******/Hacked games is illegal unless you already own a copy of game)
The Blizzard Nokia N-Gage Installer.
1. Unpack Blizzard.sis file that you get from mIRC
2. Transfer the .sis file to your N-Gage
3. Get the .blz (N-gage ROM) from mIRC
4. copy the file to the root dir of your MMC (16MB MMC)Multimedia Card
5. Use the Blizzard application to unpack the .blz file
6. After unpacking the sonic icon should appeared in the MENU
7. Clicked sonic icon and it should work !

This is normal video player for PC platform (Windows OS), but it has several additional functions
(conversion to 3gp format).
1) Download and install player.
2) Launch Nokia Multimedia Player. Open your video file (avi or mpg).
3) Press File -> Save as...
4) Enter filename of your 3gp file, and choose resolution and size limit:
MMS 64KB, 128*96
MMS 95KB, 128*96
MMS 95KB, 176*144
Custom 200KB, 128*96

How To Do it
1.) look at the name the first MMC is named and then take it out
2.) put in the new MMC
3.) format and name the new MMC the same as the other one
4.) Take back out the New MMC
5.) put the old MMC into a MMC Reader that is connected to your PC
6.) Coppy all of the MMC *make sure you have "show hidden files" enabled on your PC. see
aditional info for this setting at the bottom of this message*
7.) Make a new folder on your Desktop and Past all files into that folder.
8.) Take out the Old MMC and Insert the new MMC into the Reader
9.) Open the new folder on your Desktop

27. 10.) Highlight all of these files and folders, right click on one of the files or folders, select
"Coppy"
11.) "Past" files and folders to the New MMC
12.) put the New MMC back into the cellphone, power up, and your done.
How To View Hidden Files in MS Windows
To view hidden files in Microsoft Windows perform the below steps.
1.) Open explorer
2.) Click the "Tools" drop down menu.
3.) Click either "Folder Options" or "Options".
4.) Click the "View" tab.
5.) Within the view tab select the option "Show hidden files and folders".
Why would you want to do this?
1.) No need to reinstall everything after switching your MMC for a Larger MMC.
2.) Back your current MMC to the PC just to be safe.. never know if your card will crap out on
you and give errors or just not work.
3.) This is the ONLY way to do it.

Installation procedure for DKU-5 cable
NOTE:: The installation of the cable crivers must be done before installing the pc suite.
Also do not have the cable plugged in when installing.
Installation::
First install the Connectivity Adapter Cable driver software on your computer from
the CD-ROM supplied in the sales package before installation of Nokia PC Suite.

Loading the CD-ROM on your computer
1. Exit all Windows programs and insert the Connectivity Adapter Cable driver
CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
2. If installation does not start automatically, select "Run.." from the "Start"
menu and type "D:start.exe" (where "D:" refers to the CD-ROM drive of the
computer ) and press Enter
Installing the driver
1. Follow the on-screen instructions to start an installation wizard, which guides
you through the setup process of the driver.

28. 2. The installation wizard first tells you that DKU-5 will be installed on your
computer. Click "Next" to continue.
3. When the installation has been completed, in some systems the wizard
prompts you to restart your computer. Click "Yes". Note that you must restart
your computer before you can use the program.
4. Remove any disks from their drives, and then click "Finish" to complete the
setup.
For Windows 2000 users
When the cable is connected for the first time, Windows 2000 automatically
locates the drivers and software that you previously installed. If the "Digital
signature not found" message is displayed during the installation process, click
