2. Patent for Production of Ultra Low Phos Ferro Chrome
India Patent 00471/CAL/2001
Issued : August 24, 2001
Inventors : Prabhash Gokarn, Goutam Dutta, CVGK Murty, JK Chatterjee, P Roy | Tata Steel, India
The invention provides a process for the production of ultra low phosphorus Ferro Chrome.
The blend of raw materials charge in the furnace is varied by reducing the quantity of friable chrome ore briquettes and correspondingly increasing the quantity
of friable lumps & lumpy ore.
There is a reduction in phosphorusinput throughlime & molasses; helped by the use of low phosphorus reductants (ULP Coke, LECO and Gas Coke).
This results in reducing the total quantity of phosphorus entering the furnace thereby producing ultra low phosphorus ferro chrome, with Phosphorusin Ferro
Chrome ranging from 0.015%max, 0.018%max and 0.020%max, under variousinput conditions.
Ultra Low Phos Ferro Chrome was developed for supply for makingline pipe steel and razor blade steel, among other high end alloy steels.
