Mission Statement Perceptions for People with Disabilities ( PPD ) is committed to empowering and educating the differently-abled, (visually/blind, hard of hearing/daft, mentally and/or physically challenged) people living with HIV/AIDS to be socially independent and self-sufficient. PPD also strives to increase community awareness around the special needs of people living with HIV/AIDS who are visually impaired/blind, hard of hearing/deaf, mentally and/or physically challenged.

10. Did you know ??? As of 1995, there were 200 deaf people on the NAMES QUILT Project. As of 1994, the estimates of HIV-positive deaf run from 7,000 to as high as 26,000 (in the United States). Currently, there are virtually no data on the impact of HIV and AIDS on disabled populations. This means there is strikingly little information on the impact of the AIDS epidemic on 10% of the world’s population and their families. PPD plans to include a disability component when collecting data on HIV and AIDS.
