1. Wikis, Blogs and Web Publishing
A presentation of tools, successes, challenges,
and collections of work.
By Paul Oleck
2. Most Useful Tool
I found wikispaces to be a very useful tool that can foresee
using in the classroom for student projects to enhance
learning.
● Students can work together to share and create
information outside of the classroom
● Allows students to use their technological, writing, and
research skills
● A great collaborative tool
● Easy to use
3. Challenges
My biggest challenge came with creating a blog.
Not currently a teacher, I wasn't sure what I wanted
to express my opinion about. After much thought, I
decided to blog about an issue close to me rather
than my subject of expertise. While creating my
blog, I experienced my challenge becoming a
success and now have a foundation to share
thoughts and opinions with others.
4. Successes
Looking back at the course, I feel that I had many
successes. Before the course, I did not know what
a wiki was. I had never blogged nor published on
the web. After working with these tools, I feel that I
now have more resources to at hand to better
educate and promote learning.
5. & Online Learning
Moodle is a great tool for online learning.
– Easy to navigate
– 24/7 access to work at your own time/pace
– Clear view of all assignments & resources
Overall my experience with moodle was a positive
one. It helped me to manage my own learning and
created a platform for me to continue my
education.
6. Wiki
I created my wiki using wikispaces. The
purpose of my wiki was to share gardening
tips. With a class, students could share their
experiences and add information to the wiki
to better enhance the lesson.
7. RSS Reader
For my Reader, I
used feedly. With
feedly, I was able to
compile news feeds,
blogs, and various
articles in one place.
Feedly is a great tool
for educators to stay
up-to-date with the
latest information.
8. Blog
For my blog, Sound Mind, I used Blogger.
Blogger is great because it is run by Google,
which is a reliable host. They make it easy to
set-up a good-looking page and at an
affordable price..free!
9. Web 2.0
● For my web 2.0 tool, I used a website called
Pixton. Here I created a comic strip about
exercise. The comics could be used in a wiki or
as a project for students to create their own
educational comics. It was a lot of fun to create.
10. Conclusion
Thank you Rich for
presenting this
course. I have
learned a great deal
and am looking
forward to using
these tools in the
future.
