Course Objective:
This topic will give students an understanding of research and it’s importance for a media person. They will be
introduced to research methodologies and processes. Content analysis of TV, Radio and print will be undertaken
which will help the students understand and appreciate the media effects theories, which they will be taught. The
state of communication research with particular reference to India will be discussed.

Research: Meaning & Definition, need & importance, principle of utilitarianism, elements of research
(constructs, concepts, variable, types of variables, definition, types of definition), Primary and Secondary Data
Types of research- Basic & Applied.
Quantitative Approaches: Historical research & ethnographic research
Qualitative Approaches: Descriptive research, Correlation research, Causal-comparative research, Experimental

Introduction to research methodology, Theory of logical positivism, triangulation method & its importance

Sampling: Definition & need, concept of population, sample & its characteristics, sample frame, sample size,
sample unit
Types of sampling designs: probability sample & non-probability sample.
Types of probability & Non-probability sample.

Module III: Research Tools
Mathematical tools for research: Mean, Median, mode, correlation, regression.
Content analysis: Meaning, characteristics, process, coding, advantages & disadvantages.

MULTIMEDIA

Course Objective:
This course focuses on the design and evaluation of multimedia learning and teaching environments in higher
        education settings as well as corporate training contexts. Multimedia is broadly defined as learning
        from verbal and visual material. Students are introduced to principles of multimedia design based on
        cognitive theories and constructivist approaches to learning. Based on the hands-on experience
        approaches, methods, and criteria for the evaluation of multimedia environments are introduced and
        will be applied to the examples. In the last part of the course, students are exposed to further case
        studies and develop their own concept for a multimedia project.

Course Contents:
Module I: Introduction to Multimedia
Presentations of sound and light, words in magnetically graven image - and any known combination thereof as
well as nuances yet to come. Though computer CD is the dominant wrapper for these works, technological
innovation is the hallmark of the electronic-publishing arena, and new formats will expand the creative and
market potential. Multimedia books are publishing events; their advent suggests alternative avenues for authors
as well as adaptational tie-ins with the world of print.

methodology of filmmaking. Basics of sound, lighting and scripting will be explained to them. Based on the
hands-on experience approaches, methods, and criteria for all the processes of documentary and corporate film
making from pre-production to post production will be taught to the students. They will be encouraged to
exercise their creativity and visualize and execute short films.

Multimedia is broadly defined as learning from verbal and visual material.
