The challenge
BAM Infra strives to serve its clients throughout
the entire value chain; from design and realization
of infrastructure projects, to their management
and maintenance. To achieve this goal, BAM
Infra utilizes its own automation solution BOP;
a comprehensive solution for digital chain
integration constructed on the Mendix platform.
With a growing number of activities taking place
on-site, it was vital that they could be scheduled
more efficiently.
The solution
BAM Infra uses ORTEC Cloud Services to add
planning logic to the platform in order to optimize
the system. ORTEC Cloud Services offers services
for:
■	 Geocoding
■	 Batch optimization
■	 Time slot booking
The process
The ORTEC Cloud Services process is as follows:
1.	 The work assignments and available resources
are entered into BOP. A batch of assignments
and available resources is submitted to ORTEC
Cloud Services.
2.	 The ORTEC Cloud Geocoding then geocodes
the address information by setting an x/y
coordinate that is used for calculating
distances and driving times.
3.	 Next, the ORTEC Cloud Optimizer creates a
total schedule for the lowest cost possible
taking into consideration all of the parameters.
The result is an implementation date, time and
resource for each work assignment.
4.	 The schedule result is then visualized in BOP.
The platform informs the client about the
planned implementation date and time,
	 and the client is invited to confirm the proposal
or to make contact to request a different
implementation date.
5.	 If the client wishes to change the
implementation date, the ORTEC Cloud Time
Slot Booking looks for possible alternatives.
6.	 The definitive plan information is processed in
the work orders, which are then displayed in
BOP.
In order to schedule the growing number of activities on-site more efficiently, BAM Infra has chosen
to use ORTEC Cloud Services. The optimization of BAM Infra operations resulted in an immediate cost
reduction and a higher level of service for the consumer.

1,500 in outside sales and
service
■	 Number of assignments to
schedule each year: 300,000

via the Cloud
Information and parameters
In order to generate the best possible schedule, the system
requires information about the work assignment and the
resources. The system provides the following information
for BAM Infra work orders:
■	 Discipline
■	 Address
■	 Duration of the assignment
■	 Skills needed for the assignment
■	 Preferred week
For the BAM Infra resources, this includes:
■	 Discipline
■	 Resource skills
■	 Address of start and finish location
■	 Availability
■	 Resource performance
In addition to the information for work orders and resources,
the system tells which calculation profile must be used.
The calculation profile determines how to optimize the
assignment. For example, by using the least expensive plan
or dividing the work among the available resources.

ORTEC Case - BAM Infra

  • 1. Casesheet The challenge BAM Infra strives to serve its clients throughout the entire value chain; from design and realization of infrastructure projects, to their management and maintenance. To achieve this goal, BAM Infra utilizes its own automation solution BOP; a comprehensive solution for digital chain integration constructed on the Mendix platform. With a growing number of activities taking place on-site, it was vital that they could be scheduled more efficiently. The solution BAM Infra uses ORTEC Cloud Services to add planning logic to the platform in order to optimize the system. ORTEC Cloud Services offers services for: ■ Geocoding ■ Batch optimization ■ Time slot booking The process The ORTEC Cloud Services process is as follows: 1. The work assignments and available resources are entered into BOP. A batch of assignments and available resources is submitted to ORTEC Cloud Services. 2. The ORTEC Cloud Geocoding then geocodes the address information by setting an x/y coordinate that is used for calculating distances and driving times. 3. Next, the ORTEC Cloud Optimizer creates a total schedule for the lowest cost possible taking into consideration all of the parameters. The result is an implementation date, time and resource for each work assignment. 4. The schedule result is then visualized in BOP. The platform informs the client about the planned implementation date and time, and the client is invited to confirm the proposal or to make contact to request a different implementation date. 5. If the client wishes to change the implementation date, the ORTEC Cloud Time Slot Booking looks for possible alternatives. 6. The definitive plan information is processed in the work orders, which are then displayed in BOP. In order to schedule the growing number of activities on-site more efficiently, BAM Infra has chosen to use ORTEC Cloud Services. The optimization of BAM Infra operations resulted in an immediate cost reduction and a higher level of service for the consumer. Over BAM Infra: ■ Size of the organization: 4,500 employees, of which 1,500 in outside sales and service ■ Number of assignments to schedule each year: 300,000 BAM Infra Optimizing service via the Cloud
  • 2. Information and parameters In order to generate the best possible schedule, the system requires information about the work assignment and the resources. The system provides the following information for BAM Infra work orders: ■ Discipline ■ Address ■ Duration of the assignment ■ Skills needed for the assignment ■ Preferred week For the BAM Infra resources, this includes: ■ Discipline ■ Resource skills ■ Address of start and finish location ■ Availability ■ Resource performance In addition to the information for work orders and resources, the system tells which calculation profile must be used. The calculation profile determines how to optimize the assignment. For example, by using the least expensive plan or dividing the work among the available resources.
