Nouns
⢠Nouns are words that represent persons,
places, concepts or things.
⢠Examples: boy, car, happiness, country

nouns so they donât have to be repeated.

⢠Verbs are words that express an action or
a state of being.

⢠Form of verbs, called verbals, can serve as
other parts of speech. Gerunds are verbals that
act as nouns; they usually end in -ing (as in
acting, the profession). Participles are verbals
that act as adjectives; they usually end in -ing

represent outbursts of emotion or pain.

Note:
⢠Some words can be used as more than one
part of speech, depending on where they are
placed in the sentence. The word well can be
used as a noun (a place where water is drawn
from), an adjective, an adverb, or as an
interjection, for example.
