ECN’s Concerns on the EU Fertilising Product Proposal

 The pathogen control with limit values for ‘Escherichia coli / Enterococcaceae'
as product criteria for organic fertilisers, organic soil improvers and growing
media
 Organic materials will be excluded to be placed as fertilising products on the
European market as these pathogens will regrow
 The proposed time-/temperature profiles for composting are not in line with
the state of art for composting alternative time/temperatures are needed also
in the Animal By-Product Regulation
 Effective hygienisation for animal pathogens can be reached at 3 days 55 °C
Open Challenge: Adaption of appropriate hygienisation
requirements for compost and digestate for placing them as
as CE fertilising product on the EU market!
