What to do in Peru
Peru has an area of 1´285,216 square kilometers. It is the third largest country in
South America, behind only Brazil and Argentina. It is also considered a tropical
country. The country has three well-defined regions: a narrow coastal strip, the
wider zone of the Andes Mountains and the Amazon jungle.
The population of Peru, more than 28 million people, is of multiethnic origin, a
mixture of the sizeable indigenous population and people from Europe, Africa
and Asia. Its blend of cultural traditions is the result of wide diversity in fields such
as the arts, literature, music and gastronomy. The country´s principal language
is Spanish, though a significant number of Peruvians speak indigenous
languages – speakers of Quechua and Aymara are the most numerous.
Its principal economic activities include agriculture, fishing and manufacturing
of products such as textiles. Politically, Peru is a democratic republic with a
president and a multi-party political system built around the separation of
powers and decentralisation.

of the most famous in South America. Known by the Incas as “the home of the
gods”, Cusco was the capital of the one of the greatest Pre-Hispanic empires:
the Tahuantinsuyo. It`s Quechua name, Qosqo, means “the navel of the world”,
because Cusco was the starting point of a vast path network system joining a
large portion of South Amaerica, from Southern Colombia to Northern
Argentina.
Cusco is a colonial city with a racial diversity, splendid temples and big houses
